PHEW! [HUGE sigh of relief!]
Okay, it's all over. The vet doesn't think he has cancer, but both the bladder and the prostate have nodules and bumps which probably indicate a chronic infection. They did not do a biopsy. The vet who did the ultrasound has about 30 years experience in this, so I'm pretty sure I can trust his judgement. (I just hope they didn't blow it, the way they did with my late husband, who was told by TWO different specialists that he didn't have cancer! )
Anyway, the vet has prescribed a whole month on Baytril {OUCH!!} They took a urine sample for C&S, and if it grows bugs that are sensitive to another (read CHEAPER) antibiotic, they'll switch him over, and give me some of my money back.
The bill came to over $1,000, not counting the previous x-rays, etc. which probably totalled another $500, but I don't care. I just want my boy healthy!
The ultrasound was finished around 10:30 am. Then, they waited to get a urine sample. They still didn't have one by 3 pm, and asked me if I'd like to take him home, and try myself. Having had to do this twice before, once at -20 F, and having had him contaminate the samples both times, as well as being very reluctant to cooperate with the collection, I told them, "No thanks, I'll let YOU have the joy of doing it!"
They finally got the sample around 6:45, 15 minutes before the clinic closed for the day!
