If you have two male pups, same litter to choose from,  all things being equal.Do you choose the one who always runs off and goes missing because he is exploring? or the one who on occasion sits back and thinks thinks over? Both come when called. 8 weeks old. Both are normal in every puppy way.Thank you.

The explorer.

i'll choose the one who is always exploring... He's not tempermental... hopefully full of puppy drive... Try to boost his confidence and earn his respect you being the Alpha... The other  guy who's thinking may one day challenge you and will be hard to go into obedience... compared to the little guy always active, eager to learn and explore new things

Try to know what makes the active guy "tick" and you'll  love him making him responsive to his drives... learning what makes him tick will make it easier to train him

I would say it depends on your style of personality and your training style; what you like in a dog.  I had one of each in my last litter, they each turned into really great dogs for totally different reasons.  My "explorer" is a happy, confident dog with great working drives. She thinks the world as a whole is a very exciting place and completely loves to learn. My "thinker" has matured to be a quiet but very serious dog who can be a bit of a bully, certainly not a dog for an inexperienced handler.  He's a good worker for his family, but very aloof, and the owners have had some overprotective problems with him in the past.  Some people would read that as insecure, I think in the right hands you have a very powerful dog.

The "explorer" would be easier to train/title. Just my personal experience/opinion.

What a crap....   no experience and looking at two puppies , and ask on a board who is the best.... that I can Imagine , but  get answers from people who have enough  know how  to explane how this puppies will do in training.....and never see them ,and their behavior......or know the pedigree..... what is the value of these answers?(except Dennis) what a blah blah.    why don,t you ask the breeder for his opinion ? if its a breeder with knowledge he can give you the real answer

Geez that's a little harsh, clearwater.  I think that gsdlvr is just trying to get some opinions, not gospel truth.  It could be a completely theoretical question.  Although I agree with Hundguy that more information about the pup's behavior would be required to make a solid recommendation.  Also, more info on gsdlvr's training sytle and expectations.  There's got to be compatibility between dog and handler.

Gsdlvr, can you pony up some more info about the situation?  That would help clear things up a bit.

Really clearwater, dont be so nasty-  Whats wrong with asking for an opinion- Kathy is the breeder of this wonderful litter and is very knowledgeable.  Shes just asking a question
