I recently found a web site that states the below quote, and if I understand it correctly, Schutzhund titles are no longer given in Germany and were replaced with "VPG" titles. Is this correct? I am sure this is a mistake and there must be a logical explanation for the below statement. The web site went on to say this was accomplished because in the year 2000 there were one or two "accidents" with trained Pit Bulls in Germany and certain aspects of the original Schutzund trials were deleted or changed due to these "accidents". Is this perhaps a title given by some organization other than the SV? That is the only explanation I can come up with and it makes sense since Pitt Bulls are mentioned. "VPG (Vielseitigkeitspruefung für Gebrauchshund) are the initials for the sport that replaced Schutzhund in early 2004. Roughly translated from the German, VPG means Versatility Test for dogs. Schutzhund titles are no longer awarded. While, VPG is similiar to Schutzhund, there are some significant changes in the tracking, obedience and protection phase. Overall the protection phase removes some of the difficulties that were in Schutzhund such as the "call-out of the blind" and the "attack out of the blind."

It's a name change to be more politically correct.

SchH and VPG are the same-the only thing is that when you get the title with GSD,in pedigree there will be written SchH meanwhile if it is other breed,in pedigree will be written SchH/VPG.That¿s the only "difference".Moreover, SchH is the same as IPO nowadays.

DRFNO, what is the Attack Out of the Blind?

by Do right and fear no one on 04 March 2007 - 16:03

Thanks cage. Spook: I do not participate in Schutzhund but I would assume it is when the dog, during the protection phase of the trial, is asked to find a hidden person (in the blind), hold that person there by threat, and when that person attempts to excape, bite and hold the person until outed by the handler. As I stated previously, the last paragraph in my first post, is a quote from another web site.

DRFNO, what you describe is the blind search. The old attack out of the blind (it has since been removed from the protection routine years ago but is still in the working dog show)was when you heel the dog towards a blind and the decoy attacks the dog straight on from being hidden behind the blind.

This was a very effective exercise that was done in sch 1 only. The first bite was done with a defensive attack and blew the weaker dogs up. Also the stronger dogs would blow through the handlers obedience in the heeling and just attack before being attacked. In my opinion it is one of the ways that the sport has been made easier.

Okay. Thanks. spook wanted to know. Sounds like it would take a tough dog to not startle and retreat slightly, before gathering itself for an attack, when that occurred.

To Do right and fear no one - You can see the attack out of the blind at www.jan.sekerainfo.com ,click to vycvik and scroll down, there is a video of Chyla z Esagilu doing her breed-survey test.In Slovakia, dogs have to pass this character test,it¿s one of the things to be done.I don¿t think the attack out of the blind is something difficult, if you have a good dog with good nerves and drives,it is not so demanding.

I knew about the attack out of the blind. My point was 'there is no such exercise' in Schutzhund any more, so how current or valid is the article. DRFNO do you have the site this article was on so I may read it?
