What is the dumbest "cute pet trick" you or someone you know ever taught a GSD? shelley

HINT: We're talking about stuff that we thought was really clever at the time, but backfired with long-term, silly, ridiculous, not-tragic-but-certainly-embarasing-HERE repercussions. Have fun! SS

I guess teaching a dog to chase the water from the hose.Thought it was really cool to watch him run around like crazy chasing the water, not to mention the good excersize, right, until I attempted to water my lawn and the dog ruined my sprinklers and eliminated me from watering in the summer with him around. Or, teaching this same dog to chase sticks. Until we went camping and he would yard in long branches, knocking everything over, expecting me to throw this huge branch for him. Dumb mistakes that I learned from. Always run out the scenerio to see the end result.

Oh yea, teaching him to open the outside doors to let himself in.( we had the lever handles)I Soon learned that I had to keep the doors locked to keep him out and frequently found myself locked out of my own house, or forgetting to lock the doors after company had arrived and have him burst in to say hello to everyone. This was a real crowd pleaser, not.

Teaching our big baby dog, who is now about 80 pounds, to "sit pretty" like little dogs do. For awhile he would "sit pretty" when he should just sit. I still thought it was funny....

My husband thought it would be cool to teach our female how to open the fridge. It never happened because I pictured her feeding the entire pack while we were at work.

Wish we had thought better about teaching one of our dogs to open the frige and bring a beverage. She does that sometimes, but more often than not, she opens the frige on her own to see if there is anything that isn't in a tight lid lock container. A 16oz sour cream container in the jaws of a GSD is a mess to clean up, not to mention the dozen eggs.

My sons taught our big male GSD to allow them to place a meatball on his nose and make him wait before snapping his head so he could get the thing in his mouth...He got so good at it that he could get anything you placed on his long snout into his mouth...That and making him sit and not take food out of your hand until you gave him the "sign" that it was alright...He amazed everyone with his "tricks" until he passed this past Oct of unknown circumstances at 8 yrs... I miss that big fella more than anyone could know even if he was my wifes boy...That was a gorgeous boy, huge but gorgeous... Rob
