Official statement from the FCI:
"Due to the continuous lack of communication and response from the Canadian Kennel Club, due to the fact that the CKC does not recognize the pedigrees from many of our members and contract partners and due to the lack of common orientation between the two organizations, the Canadian Kennel Club judges will no longer be allowed to officiate at FCI international CACIB shows as from January 1st 2007.
In addition, pedigrees issued by the CKC as from January 1st 2007 will no longer be recognized by the FCI.
Finally, the title of CKC Champion is no longer accepted for the entry in Champion Class at FCI International CACIB shows as from January 1st 2007."

Wow......
What does that entail for breeders in Canada? Do they now have to get AKC registration for pups, if possible??
Just curious.

Dog has to be in the USA for AKC.

What it means is......our puppies will be recognized by
AKC for registration but NOT by FCI (as in SV which means they can't be shown in Germany!)
They are currently working to "repair" this misunderstanding......March is the date....and it had better bloody get fixed or there will be TARRING AND FEATHERING at the CKC headquarters!!!

There is an online petition at this address, requesting that the CKC recognize all FCI member countries and that they fix the mess immediately:

Dear Mr Hewlett,
It seems you already have a copy of our circular ....
As far as pedigrees are concerned, pedigrees issued by the CKC as from January 1st 2007 will no longer be recognized by the FCI, i.e.
1) pedigrees issued before this date will still be recognized (in order not to penalise Canadian dog owners with such pedigrees),
2) dogs with a CKC pedigree issued before 01/01/2007 will still be allowed to take part in FCI international CACIB shows and can still apply for the different FCI Champion Titles.
Please note that this measure only concerns dogs with a pedigree issued after 01/01/2007 and CACIB all-breed international shows, not national shows (or training) held under the SV.
We hope to have clarified things.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs Catherine GOMREE

Oh really Allan? She (CKC) told me only in North America....
Well let's hope it is resolved in the March meeting..not very good advertising for our relatively efficient CKC!
I almost had a heart attack when I got the circular, along with some other breeder friends!!!
Thanks for sharing Allan. I see your info comes from the FCI...

Dog has to be in USA for AKC? Mine is AKC registered and shipped to Canada...how does that work?
by Michele O on 25 January 2007 - 14:01
Hi Shinokami,
Simple, transfer of ownership, permanent ID # and four generation pedigree, either original or notarized copy.
OH they will ask your canadian owners to have AKC verify that you were the owner at time of sale.
Have your people contact CKC and ask for foreign registration to verify.....That's what I had to do when I brought in a female from the US.

Perhaps AKC is next. One can only hope that FCI will crack down on all the shitbag registries that do not maintain standards. Jonah
