In schutzhund the dog must jump a 1 meter (39 inch) jump. However the dog is not allow to touch the jump at all they MUST clear it. 64 inches would be a little less than double that. Although, as you mentioned, the dog did not clear it but footed the jump. I believe in Ring sport the dogs climb a 6-7 foot wall..
So what your dog did is average.... this is not taking away from the dog. Because you are taking the time and energy to train your dog. Which is keeping him physically and mentally exercised!
Just a word of advice.... make sure that the footing on either side of the jumps that you do is good and solid and level.... you do not want your dog to land wrong. Not only could he get hurt but then he may not want to jump because he is not sure about the footing.
By the way, you NEED to post some pictures of that handsome GSD you have!!!!

i think 6 foot will be easy but gonna take time. def a climb not jump.
i will add this is a frictionless surface atm. water proof paint on new plywood. so dog had to rely mostly on vertical momentum not climbing force.
i am happt just wanted to see where the average is.
what ring level is 6 foot, i did not think many gsd can do it. OR bother in ring??

Mostly Malinois doing RIng... But I have trained with a few people that do Ring with a GSD... the dogs do the wall(Pallisade) just fine... although these are not huge GSDs.. average 70-75 pounds.
Here are a few videos....

French Ring wall was at 2.5 meters (8 feet 2 inches) and is now at 2.3 meters (7 feet 6 inches). There are no lats to grip on wall. Here is a vid of a very of a well conditionned GSD female weighing 69 lbs doing her second training on the wall which is set at 6 feet 5 inches.
