I need help to understand some questions. I have read the information on the internet for what is needed to be a club. Do you need to hold a trial and show every year to stay a club? Who gets to hold the Regional? How is the Judge picked? I have been looking on the Event Calendar for two groups and see the same clubs hold the Regional for their area in 2004 and 2005. And they have the same judge. Why would someone go in 2005 to that show if they did not do well in 2004. Is it an good to have the only one judge give impression of your dog? Why are they so many trial announcements but so few shows? And how is it decided where the Regionals are taken place? With so many clubs why do only a few do all the events?

Spaetzle, In the organization called the United Schutzhund Clubs of America, a club must hold a yearly trial. However, there is NO requirement to ever hold a conformation show, breed survey or anything else to be a club. In our region, clubs volunteer to host the regional and pick their own location. In our region, generally speaking, clubs choose their own judges and there is a requirement to have a different judge before you can bring a given judge back for the trial. I think that is an organization wide rule. I do not know if there is any such rule for shows. We have chosen a different judge because we want a variety of judges. However, we have a small pool to draw from because we want SV Judges and SV Judges who can judge a trial, a show and a Kör. For the Sieger Show, the organization picks the judges and the membership has nothing to do with it. Sometimes going to the same judge, even if you did not do well the year before in terms of placement is not going to be an issue. It should be about if there is improvement and maturity in the dog. Of course, all judges have their minor quirks as to what they like. It is up to each person to decide where and when they will trial and show. Some people do try hard to go to events with judges they know and like or who have given favorable critiques or scores, but that is their priviledge and it is not much different than real life. I personally have trialed and shown under a variety of judges and found all have their special view, but indeed, found each and every one of them to be fair. Does politics play a role? I suppose it does, but this may be more so at the national events and I have yet to see it at a local event. As far as a club hosting any event, be it a club trial or regional or National event, besides money that some small clubs may not have, it takes tremendous energy, dedication and manpower sometimes to put an event on. Most people who come to a given event have no idea what it takes to host one because they have not been involved in the organization and hosting of an event.
