I have a 6 month old showline pup. I have started his obedience, tracking, protection, etc. He really has a lot of drive and I have high hopes for him. The club I train with is into working lines and is not really familiar with show training...they are supportive but just lack knowledge. I have been to a few confirmation shows, inluding the Sieger this year. I also have the set of tapes that shows the "German Way". I want to start preparing my young guy for shows next year but would like some feedback as to what to do and at what point in his training. Can anyone give me some ideas/help? I live in SW Ohio. If anyone with experienced lives in this area, I would especially love to hear from you.

hi kovey - you are on your way -- i am not a show expert .. but a little input -- use the dog's drive to get him trotting /gaiting .. also it is the relationship that you biuld that will help ypou handler -- the better the relationshoip the better the dog will seek you out .. start by having someone hold your dog and hide -- let the dog trott and have him seek you out .. get your dog used to being touched .. i dop thjis with food .. give food and let hin get used to being touched on his teeth , testicles etc .. good luck

Kovey, if you sign up at an conformation class at a local AKC club (now don't laugh) and have someone else check inspect the teeth and if a male, his testicles as well as stack him, you will be a good step ahead. First practice this yourself and teach the dog to stand and allow you to move his front legs into position and his rear legs. Then start moving away. Then just have others do the same. Your dog should be in great condition before the show. All of this should be a good experience, so reward your pup when he progresses. Your dog may not be the best trained dog (as mine is not) but these things you can do without too much outside help and I personally feel to be very important. Sunny
