The correct size for the male German shepherd is between 60-65cm from the wither. If my dog is 65cm on the wither is he classified as medium, over medium or large? Officially how much over the maximum is accepted if accepted at all?

He would most likely be classified over medium even though he is at the maximum allowed by the standard. The trend to bring the dog back to the size standard is still in effect. The max height allowed in excess of the written standard if it exists is an official unofficial height agreed upon to gradually bring size back under control. I'll not spread unofficial information. But I would consider anything to show over 67 risky.

66CM is accepted. At 67CM the dog is disqualified.

I have seen dogs get V, VA and SG that are over 70 cm!! When we showed our bitch at the Swedish siegershow 18- 24 months she looked like she belonged in puppyclass 8- 10!!! She is 58 cm. Lets get back to the correct size now!

It's being done. Problem is it can't be done overnight. You can't wake up one day and say today it's 65CM. No more 66,67,68... Breeders and the breed need the time to continue the lines in such a way that the goals are maintained and the size is brought under control. In a few years it will be back on track.

I've heard of dogs getting KKl2 only due to their size. Not sure which country though.

My son of Yasko is 72cm, but has perfect conformation.

I better rephrase. My son of Yasko is in perfect proportion. Since he is over sized, I guess he is not in conformation.

Saoa, Since I'm not a judge. I can't say for sure what would/could happen. I see a few variables that fall within judges descretion. Many times a dog being resurveyed is not measured, the previous measurement is relied upon to be accurate. If so a dog would remain KKl1. I would think in a local survey with a few club dogs entered this would be the case as the dog will probably not breed 50 litters and really influence the breed. If a judge looks at the dog and says it has value to the breed he may be inclined to pass the KKl1 on. On the other hand if the judge decides the dog is not what he considers KKl1 material, the rating could be downgraded to a 2. Maybe someone has first hand expierience they can post here.

My male is 65 cm, and he is considered large by every judge he's shown under.
