Does anybody currently have a dog UKC registered ? Is there any benefit to having a dog only UKC registered ? Would you breed your dog with a dog that is only UKC registered?

"UKC" can stand for many things. Which "UKC" are you referring to?

Most commonly used by the United Kennel Club, I myself choose them over the AKC to be totaly honest with you. Both are a breed registery nothing more nothing less. Benefits? Your dogs pedigree is recorded, you can enter any trials/shows sanctioned by that club, aside from that they are worth little.............

AKC is the only FCI registry in the US....PERIOD UKC is pretty much a hunting dog oriented.....and lots of "new breeds" start off there...

I am going to dual register my dogs this year with the UKC. Reason is the German lines do very well in confermation with the UKC, the use the German Standard to judge the dogs, makes for very good practice for young dogs for later. Heather

I guess the UKC registry is okay if done just for the sake of entering their shows, but I have to agree with Kougar that the AKC is the only stateside kennel club that is recognized by the FCI as a valid kennel club. I don't say this to start a fight here, but the UKC's pedigree documentation methods and their inclusion of recently created "breeds" (Labradoodle, Cockapoo, etc.) seem a bit strange to me. However I see nothing wrong with dual registry, especially if the dog may be used for breeding. As much of an issue that I have with the AKC's judging standards for our breed I do trust them with the paperwork. And hey, if you enjoy the UKC shows then do what you like and have some fun.

Hi there! Yes I have 3 of my dogs UKC registered. Two are dual AKC/UKC and two of them are UKC Champions. The third hasn't started being shown yet, but will be soon! We also show in the Int'l Rings, where we get a written critique on each dog in the show ring. I really like showing in Int'l and UKC, I do NOT show in the AKC conformation ring .....ugh...too political. peggy

I also would not show in AKC German Shepherd Specialty Shows. These American Shepherd people DO NOT like the German Dogs, and make no bones about it. They would not look at our dogs. Only make fun of them. Dawn

Isnt there a kennel club in other country UKC simiular to our akc system here for dogs who have been from registered lines for many many generations and have a show system and ect.... like the akc I think in Canada and in England and then one called UKC in the states that is for registering purbreds without papers like if you get a dog that looks obviously purebred you send photo money and aplication and they register it? I am just making sure I understand this all corectly one of these might not be named the same as the other and I would like to know if I have it wrong?
