Sounds normal to me. That's what our male does when one of the girls is in season.

DH , Your opinion would be greatly appreciated on this too.! Thanks!

I know I'm not DH, but this is absolutely normal behavior for an intact male when he is being tormented by a girl who smells so fine!! Our male will pitch such a fit when you let the girl out of her crate it's shattering!! He whines howls, looks at his food like "are you kidding?" There are males who will go days without food.... our male actually tells us when the girls are gettin' there, he will hang out in front of their crates and just be so sappy... big ol' grin and that "hopeful" look in his eye!! I've never seen one dehydrate himself though, most will still drink...

Normal behavior, but should continue to drink water.

Got the same problem here, I have got four males at home and when my bitches are on heat they whine whole day and if they can get the chance they will be at each other throat within no time. Love them all to death but personally i think that having bitches on heat is stressful for both owners and dogs, you have got to be extra alert.

This is very normal behaviour for a healthy male. No food, no water, no sleep, no peace for he or anyone else. The only thing that I can suggest is to take him off site if you have to-he must drink water occasionally. He can do without food for a few days, but water is important. Bob-O

Hi DJJ I am packing, so not much time right now... Its perfectly normal behaviour. He is in heat too so to speak. Hormones raging, inexperience, not really knowing that he only has a few days that he could actually mate. Food and everything else is on the back burner, in nature the drive to reproduce is very powerful and an opportunity not to be missed. No dog will harm himself by not eating/drinking even if distracted like that. He has lots of reserves, so no reason to worry. Experienced males usually do not make such a fuss. They have learned when is the right time for action and are interested in a female in heat but not very if she is not ovulating. Your male can learn this, if you are very careful! Let him run with your female under supervision, she will chase him off while she is not ready. Be very careful though that there will be no accidental breeding if you do not want it to happen. Separate them when the female seems receptive (standing, flagging) and let them back together again when she is past that (again be careful, split heat means she could stand for him again after some time). This way the male will learn what is appropriate around a female and what is not, and be a lot better next time around, and make your life a lot easier in the future.
