Hi, I want to invest in dog kennels. I have 5 dogs living with me now and want to put in real nice looking kennels. I would like to know if any of you have bought dog kennels and from where, and over the internet? I live in europe so the company would have to be able to ship the kennels here. please send me internet addreses. Thanks Jess

HI I found Priefert kennels to be the best looking and most easiest kennel to assemble. They are a powder coated steel cage. They have a website www.priefert.com but dont know if they ship overseas. Worth looking into though. Also the "Magnum" kennel runs a close sencond.Still powder coated steel but has a different assembly.I own both. People are very impressed with how they look. But the best reason is none of my dogs have ever escaped and bred when they are not suppose to.I do have them on concrete so there is no digging!

Just curious- how are you managing now with 5 dogs sans kennel?

JFU, I do not know which country in that you live, but there are some German and English companies who make nice kennels of modular design. Try this link: http://www.caninekennels.com/ I built my kennel with six (6) 5' x 20' covered runs and an exercise yard, and it is of modular design. I can easily add more runs and it will not look strange. It was not easy and not cheap, and I supplied all of the labour! The 5' issue is interesting. Before I designed the runs I was to make them 4' wide. I was cautioned by another dog trainer that this was too narrow (he knew of a V-rated male who became agitated, turned too quickly and broke his tail in the narrow stall) and that I should make them 5' wide. It is a bit more wood as I have wooden floors in the runs. But, the most randy male cannot break out and get to a bitch who is in season-no matter how hard he tries. Build it or buy it, a good kennel is expensive. Bob-O

Good question, Janette. I don't like the idea of dogs pouncing on concrete. It is a fact that wood is not so easy to sanitize or clean, and there is always the risk of a splinter damaging a dog's foot. I never had this happen but I do keep the floor in good condition. It requires more work than simply scrubbing it and hosing it off, and it is not as cool as concete during the summer. Concrete does have an advantage over wood as far as the dog's nails are concerned. I do let the dogs have plently of exercise but do occasionally have to trim a couple of nails on one. The wood is just my preference from my lifetime thus far of walking on both wooden and concrete floors. Bob-O
