Hello GSD Fans, This saturday my only dog tyson died :-(. My mother was so attached to that chap who was just 3 months old that I had to lie that I have sent it back to the seller. The day I got that chap he had some infection and for almost 45 days I ran helter skelter to get him cured but no results to be found. Vets said that it had some infection due to which it had also got skin infection but once the internal is cured the skin problem will also go off. Since I had spend good amount on that guy and could no more spend huge time around hospitals I went to the Kennel guy and handed over my tyson to him, asking him to cure him. He said that it has got SCABEES and will recover in a month but then on saturday when I went there to give them the medicines and dog food I had with me for my Tyson they said it passed away on saturday morning and that it had 3 attacks. I just couldn't beleive that my Tyson is no more with me. I simply beleive that it is the sheer incompetence of the govet vets of Hyderabad and the irresponsibility of the kennel people who never took the responsibility even though I ran behind them for help. Given a chance to grow I would ensure that Hyderabad will have atleast one specilaity hospital for GSDs. But I just want to know, can a skin disease like SCABEES (Spelling might not be correct) can kill a pup. Regards, Prabhu Kumar

I have never heard of that! Maybe someone with more knowledge can reply. I am sorry for your loss, I know it was not easy.

Dear Prabhu, I really feel sorry for the death of your loved puppy. Let me tell you one thing. The only thing tO do for you is to learn a lesson and move on. No matter how much the "Learned" people on this board GIVE you advice DON"T TAKE IT FROM THEM because they themselves are nothing but hypocrites pseudos who will talk great about the Indian stock and how well their high profile Indian breeder friends are doing to the breed but they themselves will be the first to go to Europe and get their dogs themselves. Ask Ajay Singh where he gets the studd for his bitches Or where does Noorie go to get his best progeny. The attitude is " WHY WE GOT SCREWED LEARNING THE HARD WAY SO WHY SHOULD WE GIVE A BED OF ROSES PATH TO SOMEONE ELSE LET HIM BUY FEW CRAPPY DOGS FROM iNDIA AND THEN HE WILL LEARN HIMSELF". PUTTING A LONG STORY SHORT IF YOU EVER BUY A GERMAN SHEPHERD DON'T BUY FROM INDIA STOCK YOU WILL GET DISEASED MUTTS ONLY. NOW YOU KNOW THIS GREAT SITE MAKE THE BEST USE OF IT. THERE ARE MANY ILLITRATE BREEDERS IN INDIA WHO DON'T HAVE WEB/NET ACCESS AND CANNOT GET TO THIS WONDERFUL SITE. MAKE THE BEST USE OF IT AND HOOK UP WITH SOME GOOD HONEST BREEDERS IN GERMANY. WATCHOUT FOR SOME GERMAN PIMPS WHO ARE SITTING IN INDIA ALSO THEY ARE NOTHING BUT CROOKS I THINK YOU KNOW WHOM I'M REFERRING TO ;-) TAKE CARE AND LET ME KNOW IF YOU NEED SOME HELP DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK EVEN THE STUPIDEST QUESTION BECAUSE THE MOST STUDIP QUESTION IS THE ONE WHICH IS NOT ASKED TAKE CARE AND BEST WISHES FOR YOUR BREEDER JOURNEY

Hi Prabhu Sorry to know about Tyson's death In very rare cases scabies can cause death, I have not encountered such a situation in my experience. My personal opinion is that Tyson might have died of multiple causes and not just scabies. Although it is sad to lose Tyson, This is not the end, start all over again but this time take care to check the last seasons show results and browse this site to see the bloodlines of the winning dogs that you may like and buy a puppy with those bloodlines from a sincere and reputed breeder in india or abroad. You should make sure that you take references from the breeder about his earlier sales and talk to those owners about their experience. All the best!! CHEER UP!!

Hi Prabhu I am sorry that you have lost your Tyson. When I read your post though, it appears that you accepted a puppy that was already sick at the time that you picked him up. I hope that you will try again, but next time please keep a few things in mind: - Puppies do get sick. Only buy a puppy when you have saved enough money for both the purchase AND possible vet cost. - Make sure the puppy has had a health certificate/health check from a licensced veterinarian before you have the pup shipped to you or before you pick it up. - Make sure you are allowed to take the pup to your own vet within 48 hours after you have it in your possession to make sure everything is ok, and if your vet says that it is not, that you can return it, immideately. Since the puppy was already sick before you got it, talk to the breeder about a replacement or a refund. They did take the puppy back to look after it, so they must care about the pups they produce. If you get a replacement and they have several females, do NOT take a pup from the same parents, at least not the same mother, she could pass on the problem (esp scabies) to the replacement pup even in another litter. The attacks you describe sound like seizures. This pup probably had numerous problems. They may not all be hereditary, India may have a host of diseases that imported dogs are just not set up to cope with. Their follow up generations should do better because their immune system gets used to it from birth, but it may take a couple of generations. Next time when you look at pups, pay attention to these: no bloated bellies. Ask when pups have been wormed last. shiny coat soft coat, if pup is dirty because it is outside playing, the shine should come through after stroking the pup a few times. clear open eyes, no weepy eyes or discharge in eyes,or cannot open eyes. cool wet nose, no weepy nose or discharge from nose, frequent sneezing. avoid pups that seem lazy or lethargic. pup moves freely, no lameness or stiffness, gets up and flops down without a problem. pup should be alert, happy and playful, happy to greet you, or at least interested in what is going on when you are there. pup had its first vaccination and has been wormed (ask for records) and has seen a vet at least once after it was 6-7 weeks old. pup should be 8 weeks old before you take it home. Better luck next time. Most of us here have lost some dogs, young and old. Never gets any easier...
