Haven't you ever been to a non-religious funeral?
I have.
At mine there will be music, alcohol, and a few doobies, maybe some bag pipes with an orchestra doing Amazing Grace, just because I liked Spock's funeral from Star Trek's The Wrath of Kahn...LOL
Maybe a cold cut platter and some chips.
There will be no tears shed from anyone who knows me.
I have decided my ashes will be spread at a time and place kept secret so not to create any legal problems.
How that all goes down, I'll never know because I will be dead.
My spirit will live on in the memories of the living.
My energy will be free to be used somewhere else.
I do not fear death, I do not fear any god or demon, I only hope for a good death.
This evening I took a good look around after an encounter here, watched the news, and spoke to my family.
Except for some unfinished business I am ready.
Moons.
This is for me.

Until the time comes I will not know the nature of my death, only how I will face it.

And dignity is not the only answer, it is the one I gave to you.

I do not think we always have a choice as to whether or not we die with dignity, Some folks die in a very undignified way in my experience..

No one had ever prepared them or taught them about life or death.
Or they have been mislead.
Most die afraid, or with regrets, perhaps feelings of shame or guilt.
It's not a riddle at all.
The best explanation I can give you is that it is very personal and complex, not all things should be discussed here, this venue, this time.
Such things are passed along by word of mouth, face to face, from one to another, in a manner not to be taken lightly, for one to know and understand it.
There is no room for interpretation.

We could have a decent conversation/debate on many of the topics you bring up. However, you present these topics in a manner, as if they some how discredit science. You may be better received if the discussion remains on a philosophical level.
I don't think that is the point, and not what BE is doing at all. First, I just need a few people to answer a simple question, or really a few, and preferably some of those answering would be endorsers of GSDtavel's detailed version of what I view as, her personal, limited definition of science.
Does perfection exist? If it does exist, is there a place on the timeline of existence that can also be described by science?

Nice music, Moons.
The Humanists do a jolly good funeral service, if you
want something non-denominational and not too 'religious'.
Frankly as an Atheist I won't be around to care what they
say or how they say it when they burn my body.
