Why?  Because of that pesky business of, "free will".  Makes it possible for anything to happen. Even the stuff God doesn't condone.

so anyhoo according to you crap does/can happen cos of free will....what about chance, did god also build in random chance when she built the universe?

You are entitled to believe what ever you want, but there is nothing that supports the idea.

Evidently, there is quite a bit of support for either end of the argument (the most compelling of which likely remains unrepresented in this thread).  Proof is a different story entirely, and is lacking decidedly within either camp.  I typically part ways with traditional Christian ideology on such things, and I remain vexed by the fact that so very many believers fail to recognize the chasm that exists between (engineered, IMO) between what may be apprehended naturally, and the faith that is required of the believer to bridge the gap.  Likewise, those who seek to "disprove" God, fail equally as miserably.  What generally seems most relevant to me, is that there is "not a shred of proof", as you say, that humanity will ever close or define this gap.  With every astrophysical milestone comes a myriad of new questions.  For example, a 52 year long NASA experiment (and $700m later) has proven Einstein's theory of space-time (the 4th dimension) postulated in 1915. Yet, in reality, we remain so limited and temporal, that we cannot even envision in our minds the true image of a Tesseract.

I appreciate the civility and respect extended by you and some others who do not share my position.

Why would the existence of any god need to be proved?

And Satan is not a valid argument.

Carlin

It doesn't moons; that's what makes it all so ridiculous.

Well, since you ask me what She thinks of chance, I would imagine Her concluding: Chance is for mortals. It is what keeps Her from being bored, the hope that one mortal at least, one day, they will use their free will to see how it could all work, all the pieces together, like She knows it can.
