I live in THE most racial part of Florida, the part that still constitutes the "Deep South". I have lived in other parts of the state, and am originally from New England, so I have seen many sides and extents of racism. While the problem isn't exterminated, one thing that doesn't help the cause is when we paste racists motivations on any/every negative event or condition involving a black person and a non black person (even when another minority is involved), with little regard for fact, truth or finding (perhaps the best way to perpetuate racism). To wake up the morning after the verdict, only to here a whole conglomerate decrying "race", seemed particularly knee-jerk. It's not like we've had a congressional inquiry, an appeal, or evidence of any kind indicating that the entire matter was not handled according to model juris prudence. Instead, as vonissk stated, we are showing little restraint in our emoting, which rarely produces sound judgment. You have to live in FL to understand how viral racism is in this state.

He's ruined. Assuming the jury got it right, and he is in fact innocent, his reward is defamation, and, unless he can sell his story well, financial ruin as well.Fact is, Zimmerman will live in fear now for the rest of his life, everyone knows his name and face, my guess is he'd not be hard to find even if he moves somewhere else.

And it's not just in the deep south, and it's not just black and white.
It's all about ignorance.
The real issue here is justice, or the lack of.
Defamation?
No, he will fear for his safety and the safety of his family now.

Mindhunt, when I lived in PA I knew racists, my father was one of the worst. Here in our area of FL it is far more blatant than it was in PA. Maybe that's the difference. After the last Presidential election some of my neighbors lost it. They yelled and screamed the "N" word - how could this happen to this country again. It went on for hours. The "N" word is used frequently here, I hear it much more than I did when I lived in PA I wonder where all that hate comes from.

Oh yes I can just imagine how it is down there. I know how it is here and I know it's not that bad like it was when I was in Georgia during the time wallace went and got himself shot--here people bitch under their breath but mostly they know who's who and they are very selective who they express their opinion to. And that's fine. But we are basically fighting one small battle--in Fla there are basically--as I see it anyway--larger groups of certain cultures and I can see what a conflict that would be. I know in Dallas basically the blacks and Hispanics hate each other and it stayed on between them.
I'm not sure about the fed lawsuit either.............IMO it is just a sad sad situation all the way around...................and I am saddened by where we are. I thought we would be much farther ahead by now.
Moons you can win one night without me going along liking/disliking everything!!!!!!!!! LOL......
