Mindhunt

by Mindhunt on 24 February 2013 - 21:02

People are one of the few animals that deliberatly foul their own nest is what my environmental science teacher told me years ago.  The ones doing it are usually not doing it in their neck of the woods, but in someone else's.  I walk down the beach and see plastic bottles, food wrappers, broken plastic toys and the nastiest one is dirty diapers.  We go once a month and do a beach clean up and you may be amazed at the bags and bags of crap we pick up (with gloves and metal graspers and pikes, never know what diseases you may be exposed to).  The sad thing is that there are trash cans all along the parking lot so these lazy nasty people walk right by them on their way to their cars.  It is especially bad during tourist season.

My big pet peeve is idiots who flick ash and toss lit cigarette butts out their window (hello, most cars have ashtrays).  The cigarette butts really suck when you are riding a Harley and get nailed with one.  One the other hand, stupid lazy people like this keep firefighters employed when they start a brush fire.

A couple of towns over from me is a small community called Tallevast that ended up having its ground water contaminated for years and years with tricholorethyline and other solvents by American Beryllium Company.  It was discovered in 2003 when Lockheed Martin (who had purchased the defunk American Beryllium Company plant) had an assessment done in the process of selling the land.  Last anyone heard, the residents are still waiting to be compensated.  Huh imagine that with big business having to be responsible for its own messes.

Mindhunt :  Too right !Angry Smile

On a recent 3 mile walk along a main road outside my house I saw 2 busted TV sets, 3 tires, a toilet, and about a million plastic bottles. It's disgraceful. I usually pick up the stuff that doesn't look contaminated or not covered with fire ants. I also try to clean  up after the golfers, the dog and I walk a few miles on the golf course almost every evening. Beer cans, score sheets, sterofoam plates, napkins, golf ball boxes, plastic bags, cigarette boxes, busted drivers and putters....you name it... everything but money. These people must have been raised by packs of wild wolves, they have absolutely no respect for the environment. I wonder if they live the same way?

I would hate to think what would happen should the EPA be abolished. This country would most likely become one big Love Canal. Anyone here ever drive by there? I have. Not pretty.

Reckon the packs of wild wolves have a lot more respect for
their (& our ) environment than your golfers and motorists !    ; p

Do you have the same problem in the UK, Hundmutter?. Since I've moved to FL I am appalled at how lazy some are here. They leave their shopping carts sitting in the middle of parking lots often within 10 feet of the collection rack. Trash everywhere, the townships must not have the funds to have the municipal workers pick it up. In some areas the landscpaing and mainteneance of the yards is non-existent. Maybe it's the heat?

It's not he heat,

Interesting.

Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846.

John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.

Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860.

John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.

Both were particularly concerned with civil rights.

Both wives lost a child while living in the White House.

Both Presidents were shot on a Friday.

Both Presidents were shot in the head.

Now it gets really weird.

Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy.

Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln.

Both were assassinated by Southerners.

Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson.

Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808.

Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.

John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839.

Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939.

Both assassins were known by their three names.

Both names are composed of fifteen letters.

Now hang on to your seat.

Lincoln was shot at the theater named "Ford."

Kennedy was shot in a car called "Lincoln" made by "Ford."

Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.

And here's the "kicker":

A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland.

A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe.

AND...................:

Lincoln was shot in a theater and the assassin ran to a warehouse...

Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and the assassin ran to a theater...

I saw this had to share.

Moons thanks for the link about the Hanford project. Since I live here it is all old news. I have worked at the site at different times since 1967. Leaks have been here for years, it is all politics and big business. Bechtel and other big companys get their money and immediately start hiring. Not construction but engineering. This place has been evaluated to death, with little progress at tax payer expense. Unfortunatly it is not the most contaminated you should check out the INEL at Arco, Idaho. Talk about a dump.
