For both the princess and the less prissy girl, how about a jewelry-making kit? That way they can customize their own pieces to suit their individual tastes...
For the adult women, assuming you're not talking about big-ticket gifts, one of the most useful gifts I've gotten has been a set of crank-powered LED flashlights--one for the house, and one for the glove box of the car. They don't require batteries, just a minute of cranking gives you up to 2 hours of light, and you don't have to worry about batteries going bad or leaking and ruining the light in between uses. [The listing for these, which are the ones I have, says they require 2 AA batteries, but that's not correct, and don't know why it says that in the listing.] A better quality version has a lifetime warranty on the crank mechanism, and unlike the less expensive models is reported to give off a steady and strong beam for a full hour [the less costly ones, like I have, do get dimmer as the charge winds down, but I just crank it up some more and they brighten up again]. Might seem like an odd gift, but these have saved the day more than a few times for me, and for the other family members who also got them as gifts that year.

Happy happy, joy joy.
Further reinforcement of my suspicions that his wife has stuff to get done around the house, and needs gouda to stay otherwise occupied instead of interrupting her schedule. Same way my mom encourages my dad to golf every weekday so he's not interfering with her housekeeping routine.

I just buy everyone airfare and take care of meals at my place in the Caribbean.

See, that wouldn't work for me...too hot there. I'd just cash in the tickets and buy more eggnog. Rather stay here with my 18" of lovely, fluffy snow blanketing the ground, so I can pretend the world is equally as peaceful and unsullied. I know it's just a fantasy, but it feels so real if I just keep looking out my back door into my hayfield and pasture..
