Me too! Confused Smile

I am too tired to talk more. But there are a few lessons here.....

The first thing I'd do is get rid of Norton.
Then the polite Indian guy....LOL.
Stop downloading things you don't understand and watch where you surf.

For just this once, I am going to agree with you Moons. Red Smile

Any way, just listen to this. After letting them "clean" PC#1, they told me to reboot, they'd "clean the network", and clean PC#2. So "Ritu" is working on PC1 when I get another phone call, this time it is a guy in "billing" and he is all concerned, says my PayPal Acct. was charged twice in error, he would refund me though Western Union. Now, I know this doesn't sound right, and I start to question him, and say I can't do all this checking at once, they are still working on the other PC#2. He gets all surprised and exclaims, to me, "Shut down the computer, Mam, it is the spammers."

I say "What?" And of course I get a little bit freaked out. But I shut down the computer. He wants to get back to getting me to go to Western Union to open an account so he can "refund" me my overcharge. This sounds wrong but I'm too freaked to be real clear in my head at the moment. Pretty much he had an answer for everything, all my concerns that I was having. The screen he made it so small I couldn't even read it! And when I tried to scroll down to actually read what I was supposedly trying to do... get money, or what was looking to me to instead, to pay money. He got real cranky and said don't move the mouse! We were curser fighting for a moment.

Long story, as soon as I hung up with him, my brain kicked back on. I went to my Mac, checked my bank account, and saw Ritu with the charge from Paypal, and two Western Union.... debits! I call Western Union and get them stopped. I had them block me from every using Western Union. I received an email from "Norton Aid", saying they had not been able to complete there service. I sent them an email back and pronto, he calls me on my telephone.

He tells me that the other guy is the fake, and HE is the scammer and he goes back in to remove whatever this guy had put up... which was a defragging program from a freeware site... Hippo or something or other...I recognized it from one of these other computer discussions. Tells me it will take at least four hours to do, he'd be in touch to check up on the system. Says to make sure I only talk to Max 1992. Yeah right! He just wanted time to get my money from Western Union!

Next thing I know, a note window pops up! Asks "r u there?" And it is the spammer acting like he's the other guy! Now it is this Norton guy on the phone who tells me to shut down immediately! Then we boot up in safe mode, he goes to another site called SHOWMYPC and gets in that way. Says he'd download Skype with permission so there service would be at our fingertips. I say good bye.

Minutes later, five maybe ten minutes, the phone rings and it is the spammer calling and he has the nerve to say the Western Union transactions didn't go through!

I lost it a little bit then told him he was a liar, the scammer and I would be calling the police. Asked him where he was from. Said DEE SHEE, instead of D.C... and the Western Union was in Englewood CO.  LOL Gave me phone number, too. Can't say I tried to call it, looks quite bogus to me!

I cancelled the cards already. And put in a protest claim for paypal. I am going to bring the PC's to a shop and let someone figure them out.

I do get myself in trouble just wanting to understand this stuff, but it is too much. If we only had Macs I don't think I'd have this problem!! But yeah, I am a sucker sometimes.

I just received an email from Norton Aid, saying if I still want, they'll refund my PayPal account if I respond to the email. So I responded, Yes, I want my refund!Thumbs Up

So, here is another thing, that got me going! As I am checking out the PC this morning, I see what is left behind. CCleaner and something called: TightVNC.

So, I google, TightVNC. I get a window popping up wanting me to prove I am not a computer. BECAUSE they said my computer had SOOO many requests already being done on TightVNC... they thought there could be something malicious going on!

So what does that tell me?

I am bringing the stupid PC to somebody around here and am going to let them figure it out. And I am going to call Cable and see if they can figure out why my wifi drops. I keep messing around with that too, so I don't know if I made things better. Sometimes it seems like it, and then other times not. Sad Smile

This Ritu person disputed my claim for a refund, however... their customer service decided I had a good reason for refund if I wanted to give up my extended warranty! I replied yes I would like my refund. So, lets see, they say they will process it in 4 to 5 days.

Red flags from beginning to end.

I can not believe the guy just called me back to tell me he couldn't receive any money from me at Western Union, and did I cancel my cards! I told him I was done with him, goodbye!

Why, I don't say FU, is beyond me! Confused Smile I hope he doesn't make this a harassment! Maybe, I will go to the police.

Holy Sh**!!!......Bee.....that's a scary story.....I'd be disconnecting everything, changing all passwords, canceling cards, notifying my bank and calling the Geek Squad to come clean my computers.

If he calls back tell them you know they're scammers and you've recorded all phone calls, printed all emails and looked up their IP address.....which you are now reporting to the authorities.

Wow, scary stuff bee!  I would never do business with computer people over the phone--never know who they are or where they are!  When I hear horror stories like yours, it makes me glad my son is a software developer!   I get free computer advice and service from him.  I hope you get it all sorted out.  Identity theft would be my biggest concern.

How did this saga begin bee?
Was this all done online?

I thought at first your Indian guy was in a shop somewhere you frequent for repairs.
