I dunno, but 500 siggy's isn't alot in reality. Why they even had to forge names is beyond me .. it's nothing more than lazyness.
I petitioned for sheriff once (lol) and I needed 200 siggy's. I never knocked on one single door and I waited till the last 4 days before petitions were due in the election office - to even register to be the sheriff. I'm not the kind of person who goes door to door asking for things so I held a petition signing party at my house that lasted from 11:00am till 6:00pm on the 2nd to last day before petitions and filing fees needed to be notarized. With just that one signing party - I came up 13 siggy's short for the sheriff's office. (I'll explain that in a bit)
When the people sign the petitions for a high office they need to sign and print their names, current address, birth date, the party they are registered under and phone number.
At my petition party I managed to muster up 257 people who came to my house to sign my petition. When I placed the advert in the local news I had in bold lettering MUST BE REGISTERED REPUBLICAN to sign !!! Unfortunately for me and all my honest signers - I only handed in a total of 200 siggy's the required amount. (soo stupid of me) Of those 200 siggy's 13 were registered democrat.
If I would have notarized all 257 instead of the required amount of 200. I could have beat the sheriff seated, no doubt.
So, how those (Obama) petitions were even accepted to be on the ballot - I too have no idea why. Because in order for the election office to know 13 of my 200 siggy's were democrat - they would have had to review and/or contact all my signers.
I was invited to the endorsement party with the GOP and the Mayor told me - the reason my siggy's were verified was because the seated sheriff didn't like the idea he could be voted out (especially by a former Police Chiefs (who the current replaced) granddaughter) - and he (the current sheriff) was the one who verified all my siggy's and reported to the election office the results. If I would have known this ahead of time - I could have done the same for his re-election siggy's - plus handed in all 257 siggy's.
Live and learn.
Don't worry Blitzen - I'm not doing that again. I missed 4 races, missed 2 rabbit shows and my parents for those 4 days thought I was gonna be shot.
But ya, once those petitions are notarized and the filing fees paid - the person running for office is responsible for all content and siggy's. Running for office isn't a joke - there are tons of laws, campaign tax laws and even campaign spending laws - I had to pay election taxes on the billboard, all adverts and even the food and such. It was a headache really - I had to hire my tax man just so I knew I was doing everything by the law. No wonder why people don't run for high office. I never accepted donations though (I funded myself) - so that kept it simple - but still a headache. LOL
