Now this is a side shot of a question, and discussion I was having with my teenager sons:

"Stereotypes", its definition seems to be merging with "racism". I think there is a difference but that difference is being parsed out with compartmentalized thinking. Any others have a thought on this? I think it has much to do with what is happening, IMHO

This man went to a fair bit of work to show us the background on both individuals.  Interesting.

Bee, the purpose of my post was not " to be right". That's dumb. But carlin went apeshit and made some comments regarding what he "just knew I was thinking" and " sucking up the media bs like a whale sucks up plankton." that was total BS and I responded to it, so the rest of this, you're correct, I don't care. But appreciate you not putting words in my mouth, same goes for your buddy. As for the subject of this thread,, I don't think that the community where he lives is going to be "safe", with the guy being ALLOWED to carry his gun again. That's my opinion, not something I "sucked up from the media". You and carlin can sort this out between you, as it's worn out now.

Bee - they're everywhere, and to complicate matters, "stereotyping" is a word that encompasses a wide range of psychological and sociological phenomena.  Add an increasingly diverse, and ever growing population in the US, and we end up with a terribly delicate situation.  Our politicians and media do little to alleviate sensitive issues, more often than not seeing one utilizing them to the ends of political posture, with the other often aiding and abetting, while lining its wallet.  God forbid, if we grew up and no longer "needed" the Olympians to sort things out for us here in the sandbox; where would they- err, we be then?  I think it takes a commitment to both understanding and patience to make it work.  Even on this forum it isn't always easy to cooperate and peacefully coexist, and this is within a remarkably anonymous context in regard to race, color, ethnicity, etc.  Scientifically, there isn't a whole lot you can do about your environment as a child; you perceive your world through those experiences.  As an adult however, you can commit yourself to continued growth and learning, if you want to.  Equally important, as we are finding out, is not simply reacting irrationally when confronted with difficult, polarizing, and charged situations.  The way many people are carrying is like some sort of witch hunt, where there is just complete frenzy, in a vacuum of maturity (emotional and psychological alike), critical thinking, and an approach consistent with a civilized society.  Boycott the State of Florida?  This is the type of leadership we're following during such a tentative process?  We need to be building bridges, not burning them down.

RedSable,
once more your sources of information are without merit.
Canadians must have very low standards when it comes to news or facts for that matter.

Blitzen,
(Racism has been a way of life in the world since day one.)

Your correct in a sense but I would not call it racism.
Identifying people with their clan, culture, tribe, territory, instead of their own individuality has always been.
It's not going away ever, it is who we are.

Moons.

we definately need to burn them down.

carlin was apeshit

I'm a lot of things, but never have been confused with that, lol.  Perhaps you have me confused with Zimmerman.  Do you really believe that the more you hear yourself say, or see yourself write these things the closer you'll be to believing them yourself?  I think you have a friend in Bee, but even she's not buying.

Just saying,
it's a mistake to think some peoples can live together.
This was never meant to be.
