i am looking back over the past six years of NE Regionals to see who the judges have been. Is there any rule in the USCA to determine the overuse of any one judge?

by Louise M. Penery on 04 July 2005 - 04:07

spaetzle, You may be right;(( Nine years ago, I went to a show where Quoll judged and gave a seminar. During the social activities at the seminar, I heard a well-known breeder (not from New England) inquire about the recent death of one of Quoll's males. He offered to have a tombstone designed, engraved, and sent to Quoll in Germany. Guess whose male was V1 under Quoll at the show? Louise

why bring these complaints to this message board, other then attempting to spoil the event I don't see the need. if you have all the information, start a club, bring your judge to judge. your event with the large entries because of your effort to put on your type of event, will say much more then this type of posting.

by spaetzle on 05 July 2005 - 03:07

Oh so Gem, you acknowledge that it is a "club" controlled event. I am not trying to spoil any event. I am saying that every event should be fair and every entry should have a "chance" to win. The organizations (WDA and USCA) should put an effort into ensuring this. There should be steps in place to ensure that the judges should judge the dogs and not give favor due to the owner/club members. Entries in other Regions double and triple the entries in NE. The feed back that I got was that this Region was politically dominated. That is BS. And the judges that may be a part of this are pathetic and do not deserve respect. There are many SV judges so a different judge should be expected. And there are already several clubs in this region so the same club should NOT be hosting the Regional year after year. There should be a rotating schedule. I also think that it should be unethical for an SV judge to be visited by someone from the states (who may be seeking favors) weeks before an event that he/she is judging and he/she is competing in. This is a big $$$ business but it must have checks / balances to keep it healthy and to maintain a future growth of enthusiasts. Dirty politics is detrimental to the protection of the breed and to the development of the future of GSD enthusiasts. That is all that I am trying to state here. And FYI I am a member of a club and we try very hard to offer a "fair" venue at every event that we host. Our entries speak for the success of our venue. Any Regional with less than 75 entries should be considered an embarrassment. It should not qualify as a "Regional". This is just my opinion but because of the $ and prestige of advertising a "regional" champion, there should be an entry eligibility requirement and an organizational sanction that declares the event properly organized, supervised by an officer of the host organization and every trial / show should have an officer of the organization present to assure that the proper qualifications were met. An interesting thought, don't you agree?

by Nicos on 05 July 2005 - 04:07

Very well put! There is no question about the BS. We all know it and so we stay home. There is no chance to win so why bother spending the time and money. One can see what the results will be just by looking at the kennel name and the owner. The judges are very happy to help out there friends. This is not something learned here in the USA --- It is the same in Germany. But if you have a good dog people will see this. In this case few will come so you are wasting your time. Perhaps one day things will change but not in our lifetime.

I don't acknowledge any thing, I always wonder how some of the readers read so much from a single short post. your posting tells me you are new to showing.... when I go to a show Sieger, regional or local, the win makes little impression on my thoughts of the quality of the shepherd placed. Looking at the dogs and makeing my own judgements are more important then the wins. having some thoughts on the judge is part of the process in showing. any animals. Quote, This is just my opinion but because of the $ and prestige of advertising a "regional" champion, there should be an entry eligibility requirement and an organizational sanction that declares the event properly organized, supervised by an officer of the host organization and every trial / show should have an officer of the organization present to assure that the proper qualifications were met. An interesting thought, don't you agree? I've never had delusions of grandeur, studying the judges is an important part of the game.

Spaetzle, are you under the impression that there a bunch of top notch dogs in the New England region that are trained, conditioned and ready to go but not entered because there owners are too fearful of getting a 2nd,3rd or 4th place ? I dont't think so. Gem mentions looking at dogs entered and making own judgements, more can be gained that way then simply sitting at home waiting for results to be posted. Maybe you have seen a picture of a dog you thought should win, but you didn't go to the show to see that the owner has done nothing to condition or prepare there dog. You got to be in it to win it.

Dear Nicos- You need a new screen name. You were already exposed on this board, remember? Interestingly, you have sent in two entries for the show despite your comments. Our club would be happy to refund your money for them if you are so sure that the show will be unfair. Spaetzle, it wasn't tough to find out who you were either. The SV will be reviewing your comments very soon. To the many that are aware of the impeccable reputation of Herr Lothar Quoll, we look forward to seeing you this weekend for a great event. Entries are still open for 2 more days. The members of OG Wesconn
