Sorry if this is a dumb question that has been answered before, but will a neutured male still be interested when a female comes in heat? I have asked a friend to take care of my female while she is in heat but don't want to drive his neutured male crazy in the process.
Actually I have had a neutered male (was nuetured at 6 month) and at 1.2 yr tried to get with my female just like a stud - let just say more then Humping. So I would say yes in some cases but other males would think nothing of her. Depends on the male
depends on the male
not all neutered males are interested
but they can still mount and tie if they get interested...
Several years ago a friend of mine took in a neutered male that another friend of ours had rescued in Spain a few years before. One eyed Jake, mutt galore, but lovely and fixed a few years ago. Jakes owner had to go to hospital for a lengthy procedure and needed to place Jake for that time. No problem, it was summer so my friend turned him out with her prized pure bred Husky females, one had won Best in Show at a CACIB (FCI all breed show) in Leipzig, the best dog out of over 3000 entries. My friend called me after she had had Jake for a couple of weeks that he was getting thin and she could not get any weight on this dog. She fed him all he could/would eat and was getting worried. So I dropped by, he looked fine, probably the fact that he had gone from being a sofa dog to being outside with dogs to play with all day long had made him trim down. Whatever she tried, Jake would not put on weight. A few weeks later her son came into the house and told her that Jake was tied to her prized BIS bitch! Needless to say I got a freaked out call. Jake had been out with several of her females that had all come into heat one after the other but were not going to be bred that time. So she figured Jake being fixed would be ok with them. This was the last one that had come into heat. And sure enough they were tied. Took me a while to calm her down and assure her nothing could happen, even if for some reason Jake was not neutered but had retained testicles, which cannot produce viable sperm when inside the body. In her head she was going to have Husky -x- One-Eyed-Jake-Mutt mutts populate her kennel in a few weeks. Which of course never happened.
Shortly after that Jake started put on weight again. He probably had the best holiday of his life: sex without consequences and being stuffed full of food. His owner raved about how great he looked and happy he was when she picked him up... ;o) I bet he was.
Castrati of the 16th to 18 century used to be the favorites of the women of the high society because they could provide the pleasures of the flesh without consequence.
So yes, it it possible. Not likely, but possible. There is no need to separate the dogs though as nothing can happen in case they do get busy.
Ah, now there is answer for you. DH provides us with not only with information sought, but a little enlightenment of the playful 16th century aristocracy.
Or...........I wonder if the real question behind the question is, "If Funk Man has a vasectomy, will he still be interested." Hmmmm! I guess it does depend on the male.
Funky Woman you R a member of Grand Funks band of Soldiers chek with him or the very knowledgeable B O, I always respects Bobs posts. Other alternative bring your gal over here and I will watch her for you.

I should have known that the male of the species will never pass up an opportunity to score :)
Not being patronizing here... But my understanding was asking a question takes the dumb out of anything, Honestly it takes alot of guts to ask a question here, as you might be putting yourself in the pot of boiling water. Thumbs up to you for asking !
I too have heard of neutered males tying with females, though I have not seen it, not even here at the shelter. But I'm sure someday I will.
