Ok you know the from of the papers where it has litter mates name. Under that i guess it usually says how many there where. Well mine says 6,7 totgeboren 3,2 verendet 0,1 could some explain i think i know what the last part means but the rest is a little confusing. I thought i knew how to read them till this one.

Thismeans there were 6 males and 7 females born. Of that number, 3 of the males and 2 of the females were born dear (totgeborn=dead born AKA still born), then they culled (verendet) zero males and 1 female. So of the total 6 males born 3 were born living and 3 were born dead, andmno males were culled, so 3 lales lived of the 6 born. Of the 7 females born, 5 were borm alive and 2 were born dead (totgeborn). Then they culled (put down) one female so a total of 4 of the 7 femaels born are living. This makes a lving liter of 3 males and 4 females. Jackie Ahton Grunenfeld Shepherds

I can't believe what a lousy typist I am. Too bad there is not an automatic spell check on the messages like there is on my email. Hope you can understand what I wrote in spite of my many typos. Jackie Athon

totgeboren means still born verendet means that the pup died, usually after the initial litter info was reported to the SV. verendet does NOT mean that the pup was culled, put down or anything like that! Verendet means that it may have been put down if there was a medical reason for it. Or it could have been a fading puppy, been laid on, gotten sick, or it could have been one of numerous reasons why a pup dies between the time of birth and the time the litter was tattoed.

thanks everyone\ Hi D.H glad to hear from you. This seems like a very large litter so i guess it would not be uncommon to loose some or be still born, but how can i find out why the other one died later. The breeder hasnt got back to me. Could one expect to have problems with litters from one of the female from this litter?

When breeding one always needs to be open to the possibility of problems. Could have been many reasons, not necessarily because of a genetic problem, which is what you are hinting at. And it would not be anough to find out about the death of a pup in just that litter. You would need to know what happened in every litter every dog in that pedigree has produced and beyond that. Not realistic or practical. Even if you would find out that would still not be a guarantee that future litters will be trouble free. If the female you have out of such a litter turns out breed worthy, try a breeding and see what she produces. That is about all every breeder can do. Breeding in the end is always experimental, there are no guarantees.
