Hi, I have noticed that my dog shakes his head after eating his royal canin kibbles which I feed him dry Am I missing on anything?? Does the two have any relation or is it just my suspicion that dry kibbles can cause ear infections??? Any help would be greatly appreciated regards Vikram

i think every dog is different i am not saying anything bad againt this food but i had to switch my girl off of it as she was getting ear and yeast infections and I suspected it was diet so I changed to another brand and she ever had any more trouble I would definetly try another food.

Vikram, besides blaming it on the food... Find out by the vet the reason why your dog is shaking it's head. Maybe your dog have mites or worse a hard to get rid of ear bacteria that looks like mites but it isn't.

there could be other reasons for the ear infection, but food allergies are definately one cause - so if your dog is allergic to something in the food it could help the ear problems, to change his food - look for something with no corn or wheat ingredient. molly

Hi, I would say go and take your dog to a vet. but What is the protien content of the food. You might be giving your dog too much protein. hope this hepls. Jess

The chewing action does stimulate the muscles that are used to raise and support the ears. It may not be the food at all, but there is something bothering the dog's ear(s). It could be as serious as an infection, or it could simply be a piece of dirt or plant material that is lodged deep in the ear. That can cause a problem if it is not removed. Like most, over many years my dogs have had an occasional bacterial (two times) or yeast infection (one time) and one (1) time one had an ear mite infestation. It is best to let the veterinarian examine the ears to determine what is going on in there. But I had a similar thing last week with an adult female. Not necessarily after eating, but she would occassionally stop and shake her ears as if there was a problem. I examined and sniffed her ears; saw nothing but then rinsed her ears with an ear solution that I keep for a male (who has sensitive ears) and the problem went away the next day. It could have been a piece of dirt or a stray hair-I'll never know. But, if the problem persisted after a couple of rinses I would have taken her to the veterinarian. All of mine eat the Royal Canin without a problem, but as eichenluft stated it could still be an allergy as they are all a bit different. Bob-O

Hopefully it is not the food. To try to stay ahead of ear infections by doing a flush every 2 weeks, or at least once a month with a good ear cleaning solution and afterwards a good ear drying solution. This preventative measure works quite well for me and we RARELY experience ear infections. Stephen

I would stop putting the food in the ear and let the dog eat it instead. lol! I doubt it is the food causing your problems.
