I don't think it is as black and white as that, see this thread about HD to learn a little about the disease/condition. DH explains it very well. http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/bulletins_read/33800.html#33940 Someone still might be able to name names, as far as actual occurances among Stud dogs, but any dog/bitch can produce HD even if they are certified themselves. Take care, Melanie

Esko Danischen Hof has proven to be a phenomenal and dominant producer of good hips through his Dam's side. Perhaps he is the best hip producer in the history of the breed since the 1950's. Of course breeding him to a dysplastic bitch as an attempt to compensate is a move toward degredation of hips in the litter and later. However breeding a bitch with fair or better hips and many other great qualities is a defenite improvement and can be warranted if the overall producing quality of the bitch is great enough.

Why are we JUST giving all of the credit to Esko Danischen Hof? Why can’t we give credit to the bitches that were bred to him? People contuine not realize that bitches play a huge roll of producing nice puppies. Unfortunately people will look into the males more than the female.

That's because a male has more progeny and therefore the numbers about producing hd are more acurate. Offcourse for a specific litter the female has an equal amount of genes passed to the pups. But if a male has over, for say, 100 litters more progeny with a-normal than average, you can very well say he's a good producer. In average the females where he's bred to wouldn't be very different from the average other male's are being bred to.

I bet we can have many of good exemples like Esko in the Work sector. They had been working on that! If somebody knows good ones, just name it!

Is any Esko puppy for sale?

by Preston on 13 March 2006 - 03:03

Brittany, perhaps you misunderstood me. If you read my post again you will note I mention the importance of the bitch's hip quality (as a general predictor of her hip producing ability). I mentioned Esko because there are very few showline w.Ger stud dogs which appear to be truly dominat for good hips like he has proven to be. I was told from a reliable source that this come through his dam's side which is known for it and it is passed as a dominant trait. Notice I mentioned "his dam's side". As far a some pure working lines with no show rating (and about 5-10% are "cross-over" dogs which also win V-ratings in the show ring), I have heard that there are some who were imported to the USA and easily got an OFA excellent hip rating. I am sure that there are a few in w.Ger that are also dominant producers of good hips (and some are likely bitches, too, just like Esko's dam).
