Hello, I want everybodies opinion on this. Is it possible to buy a good show quality puppy by just selecting from a kennel's website? We see lot of different combinations in different kennels but as we (outside germany) can not visit and have a look at the litter personally I feel it is risky what one will get. What is the general experience? Is there any agency or a person who can go and verify (health, photo with actual dog, papers, etc.) before we buy? Because there are stories about people being cheated even by well known kennels. few days back on this site only somebody mentioned of being cheated by a well known kennel. waiting for everybodies comments.

There are several brokers that you can use but then the total cost will be close to twice as much as you pay if you had dealt yourself. Just wait and see brokers will reply to this post and you can decide for yourself. I had recently purchased two pups from Germany from a well known kennel just to have one and to avoid the brokers. That way I took a risk but I have learned a lesson. Overall I would rate the customer service and satisfaction to me as " GOOD " but then if you ask me will I do it again. My answer would be NO!!!. Next time if I want a pup either I will visit the breeder in Germany or have a Broker. Remember one thing there won't be any guarantees if you buy a pup in Germany unless you have a broker.

Hi there, First you must bear in mind that all breeders specially in Deutschland (which promises fame and fortune if you have a top dog) want the best puppy in the litters for themselves. You seldom find in website puppies for sale that still of use for them. The usual reasons are : Lack of time or can't keep all the litters!! You can be sure 70% of that. This is completely normal. Second, no use also to ask the quality of the puppy to their breeder, you know what I mean?.. The risk of chosing a puppy without seeing must be realized and should be taken to your consideration. You can't completely erase this risk. Unfortunately there is no agency or person to check out the dog for you. The best thing you can do is taking the risk for the first time and see for yourself the quality of the litter, whether being cheated or not..but just to reduce the risk try to ask to the breeder/owner's explanation about details like teeth, balls, eye colour, long/short coat, health and character (but do this altogether in a row, Deutschland Breeders/owners usually will not want to waste time by answering questions many times to you specially if they feel you pay just an average price).. if you do want to buy repeatedly from Deutschland, I suggest you must visit Deutschland personally and start to make a good contact with some persons/breeders there who you feel you can rely on. Even you have a good contact, you must remember that asking his/her assistance to find or look at a good puppy will cost you because he/she will calculate time he/she wastes or transport or phone bills from his/her place. No such thing as free service in Deutschland. A bit experience to share, playing dogs in Germany is very very difficult while there are thousands of breeders spread across Deutschland with almost hundred thousands litters produced each year, with the competition so strict sometimes small breeders can breed as good as big/famous breeders but with his unpopular kennel name not to mention lack connection to the judges it is impossible for their breeding to reach up top places. You are lucky to meet these breeders, you can have a good dog with cheaper price to play at your own country. Or you see some lower grade dogs in Deutschland show (Sieger/Landes/Orts), this doesn't absolute mean that the dogs are bad, I witness many dogs who has no future again in Deutschland show rings proves to perform well in other country even by SV Judges (probably because less competitors or more suitable weather or no strict qualification required as in Deutschland). Last thing for sure, the breeding product from famous kennels commands higher price than the small/medium kennels.

Why not just buy a puppy in the country you are in, that is out of imported parents from Germany. You get basically the same thing but you have the opportunity to view the puppy before buying it. You also have some recourse legally in your own country if problems arise that were hidden. It will be the same bloodlines as the dogs in Germany but closer to home. German born dogs are everywhere.

Hello, Thanks very much for all your comments. The general opinion seems to be see it yourself and then buy. But what about the puppies from top kennels whose owners are SV judges? I think at least puppy will be without a major fault like teeth fault, a monorchid, White hairs, light eyes, etc. I think SV should issue license to people who can do this job. So that there will be some accountability for the brokers. And buyers like us who are far away from germany wont mind paying SV or the broker because of the reliability invloved. please give your opinion. Thank you again

In my limited opinion a German breeder would never sell his best puppy but that stands true for all the breeders. So when I am buying a puppy from a German the first thing that I have in my mind is the second pick of the litter or just an average dog. Doing it for a couple of time I found that I never was satisfied with it. The only way that I found is better is to import a female and have a bunch of puppies and choose one. Producing your own puppy is somehow better than buying a puppy from Germany. Indeed, the cost is higher at the end of the day but again you have plenty of choice and if you have a good eye, you can pick one.

Thank you for the reply suhailf. the solution suggested by you is simple but difficult to follow in terms of cost. and again to select a female we have to go to germany or rely on breeder or broker.

I'm always surprised at the remarks on this board. (And can you feel the brokers buzzing in?) Parako! Please! Don't overdo it! "... while there are thousands of breeders spread across Deutschland with almost hundred thousands litters produced each year" The SV approximately registers 20.000 pups per year (a little less maybe by now). Divide this by 5, the overall ratio for the size of a litter, and you will end up with: 4.000 litters born/produced each year, OK? The promessing pups will always stay with the breeders and their closest friends. They will NOT leave Germany (unless some idiot is willing to pay exagerated amounts of money). The rest, oversized dogs, overbites, etc. (name all the faults of the standard here) will be sold asap and go abroad. Pups from the top(producers) will nowadays not cost more than average 850 EUR for a male, somewhat less for a female. Why would they cost more? Nobody can tell if the pup will be fine, only weeks later. You can get yourself a wife from Russia or the Phillipines (with all due respect, they are wonderful people), but if you are committed, you will go out to meet her before marrying her, no? Would you trust the broker? One doesn't buy a dog from a catalogue (website). You will need to find out by interaction with the pup if THIS is the dog for you (and your purposes). Remember the ugly duck tale. Make personal contact with the breeders of your choice. Go and visit them, become friends with them (if they let you). You will meet some extraordinary people and the chances they will trust you with one of their pups will increase. Wherever you are on this small globe, somebody in your vicinity will already have been there before, and you will find excellent pups less than a daytrip away. Good luck!

Finally here he is , Jantie the great, with his great and grouchy ideas. Calling all the people idiots who buy expensive dogs. If there are no idiots like them, where would you place Jantie. You are actually trying to say that people who spend their money out of love for GSD are idiots. I dont know who has given you this authority over here to make comments like this. When you point one finger at someone, rest of the hand is pointing towards you. Your all breeders in Germany are enjoying becoz of those so called" idiots". I believe that you are so smart and intelligent that you dont buy expensive dogs and you just steal them.
