The German term "Zuerkannt" means "awarded". This is usually done posthumously, and does not mean that the dog had hips of any grade from excellent to failing; it just means that he seems to have produced normally. The S.V. will append the term Zuerkannt when the dog was not examined/certified (usually for dogs that were born in the late 1970's and before), but it's progeny have reflected normal hip quality in succeeding generations. By normal quality I mean the naturally-occurring ratio of a-Normal to a-fast Normal to a-noch Zugelassen to mittlere Dysplasie and schwere Dysplasie are displayed in the examined individuals from succeeding generations. The practice of x-raying and rating hips did not begin until the late 1960's in the United States and Europe. The consistent examinination of GSD's did not start until the early 1980's when breed club rules began to adopt this practice for selecting acceptable breeding stock. For example, in the U.S.A., approximately 2% of GSD's score OFA Excellent, approximately 78% are divided between OFA Good and OFA Fair, and approximately 19% fail becuase of one (1) or two (2) faulty hip joints. This is considered normal hip production for the GSD unless we improve it by better breeding. And, it has improved a few percentage points in recent years.

I have a male from Erasmus line,9 months old,I found this month when I post him I heard a click sound from the hip, is that mean he has HD or it will disappear after fully growth,I really want to train himfor show.

is the dog moving well? give him a break; he might have laxity of ligaments... if you want to be on the safe side, x ray the hips (~ $150) and see what they look like; i'm sure the dog has a hip contract of some sort, kosmas

JFU, sorry I copy and pasted that from a title translation website and assumed it would be correct. Apparently Bob-O knows what he's talking about.

It's perfectly okay, GSDFan. Bob-O was born German. It's funny though-even though so many years have passed and I can still read it very well and speak it okay, I still find German words that are new and/or sometimes difficult to comprehend.
