I have a question for all you breeders out there. I was curious if anybody ever tried breeding a dog who is (for an example) a SL to a WL to improve the working abilities within the lines? What are the results of the breedings? Please explain :)

...just because you think you have mixed all the right ingredients does not mean that the dough will rise to the occasion. Sometimes the result will fall flat, sometimes the result will be splendid. There is no way to generalize it, apply the results of one breeding to another or make a rule of something. But you can be sure that if your dog is lacking trait X, you cannot just improve on X in the offspring by using a breeding parter that has X or XX or XXX. Some lines or breedings are more compatible than others. Breeding also follows a very individual goal, which may be good for one but not for the next person. Mixing the lines depends on the dogs and what is behind them, the quality of the results depend on what the breeder had intended with the breeding. Some benefits of a particular breeding may not surface for a couple of generations of carefully following a breeding plan to obtain the actual result. Do you really think people are going to put together videos for you??????????? HAHAHAHAHAHA

To improve working abilities within the lines? Is this a statement that S/L dogs are not fit for work? LOL! You run the risk of a litter with drives too low for proper working homes and too high for average pet homes; more rescues?

I have done a few S/L W/L breedings with mixed results. The biggest problem I have seen is lack of uniformity in the litter in appearance drive and temperment. I have had far better results by making sure my Show females have true working ability and finding the best possible mate for her. Whether we are talking about showlines or working lines temperment and structure are equally important.

excellent point CMathis!! females need to be of higher caliber than I have seen being bred, the male brings his genes to the mix but i believe the female brings more why would you breed all these mediocore females all the time to wonderful studs? why is always the attention on the males? I would love to see stronger females only being bred and stop with the non titled females being bred or just being satisfied with sch1 on the female? The only reason folks drop the standards on the females and high on the males that i can see is the almighty stud fee dollars! lets see some hard hitting higher drive females out there my female is intense and intelligent maybe sometimes too much so for her own good lol I just think too much is spent and looked on the males and the obvious solution is ignored.
