I heard a report that there was some article published in Germany by AR organizations on the use of e-collars by top trainers.... Can anyone who knows about this provide more info?

I do not know German (anymore than the commands my dog knows) so I am curious as to the general particulars of this article if indeed such a story exists.

I don't know the details but apparently electric collars are against the law in Germany.  Peta has videotaped some top trainers using ecollars in the following video.
http://www.peta.de/web/teletakter.7712.html

Word has it that there will be an inquiry and titles rescinded for the dogs of these trainers.

Was PETA trying to make a video on why ECollars should be allowed in the training?  Or the proper use of an ecollar in training?  How did PETA know the ecollars were being used to give an electrical shock and not a vibration or tone?

Isn't PETA against pet ownership or is that a myth?

Should dogs not be allowed to swim because some people have purposely drowned dogs?  Or should dogs not be allowed to go into the woods because some people have abandoned dogs in the woods?  Should dogs not be put in kennels because some have been left in them for too long?   Should dogs not be allowed to run because some people have forced dogs to run when they were lame?  Should dogs not be fed because some people have overfed their dogs which caused chronic illnesses?

Extremes in all things are usually bad.

Here's the link to a recent study that illustrates the effectiveness of e collars while causing the least stress to the dogs: http://www.ecma.eu.com/Comparison%20of%20stress%20and%20learning%20effects%20of%20three%20different%20training%20methods%20in%20dogs.pdf

Keith you know PETA and many other AR idiots with agendas are not interested in science unless it supports their perspective.  If titles are rescinded then people that are actually working dogs should dump the SV and start a new organization that actually supports the maintenance and development of the GSD.  The dog has earned the title period, methods used in training do not change what the dog has achieved.  The title isnt about being politically correct, its about showcasing the dogs abilities and the trainers skill.
Clearly time to dump the SV for the useless organization that it is.

Haz, e-collars are forbidden by German LAW, it´s not about SV in this case.
As long as nobody cared, SV did quietly tolerate the use of e-collars.
Thanks to Jantie ( although otherwise I do respect him ) PETA became involved and this is the result...

And this is no German, but a European problem...

Susie,

Ouch.

When training in Europe, I often wondered how long it would take before someone (anyone) with a vendetta would make such a recording.

Sounds awfully messy and damaging not just to the individuals but our sport and our breed who's capabilities we would like to maintain.

Ouch...

Jantie got PETA involved?

by Haz on 19 September 2013 - 14:09

Thanks for the clarification.  Still seems stupid to me and I still dont see how the SV would rescind a title based on a law they did not write?  If they want to legally fine the trainers go for that but titles rescinded?  That makes about as much sense as the law in question.  Im also confused how these guys allowed themselves to be recorded.

I imagine the SV took away titles achieved by these members SINCE the law was passed??
Doing otherwise makes NO SENSE!!
