Is it in the German "business culture" to be opaque? I have dealt with both American breeders and German breeders and I have bought dogs from both. I find enerving that German breeders will not disclose the price of a dog until the last moment. One German breeder even even asked me to offer a price before telling me his asking price. On the other hand, most american breeders -not all of course, are upfront and transparent. Some of them even post prices in the Internet. I think it is interesting to know if other people have had the same perception -I may have had particular experiences, unfair to generalize.

I have experienced the same thing from a German breeder, once. I chose not to work with that person. He's fishing in a big ocean though so at some point he'll get a bite. In talking with a known GSD breeder in the US, I remember well her saying she would increase her price if the new owners drove up in an expensive vehicle. This is someone with some clout with USA. I'm not fond of prices on websites either though. It's too commercial in my mind to post prices as if one were dealing with a car. If selling a dog or pup, price should be predetermined before inquiries. One knows what his dog is worth ahead of time. If you set the price too low and the dog sells quickly live with it. At least there is integrity in that. Someone flimsy on price is probably not honest about other things too?! Warm Regards, Sue-Ann

Heard an interesting story from one of my friends. A dog was advertized, he responded in German and was quoted a price in Euros. The breeder obviously thought he was from within Germany. His friend also responed, in English and got quoted in dollars a price which equated to about Eu 1000 more! The breeder obviously thought he was from the US. Makes one think ...........
