okay Moe, now move over! I am still searching for my puppy. Many of the breeders that I contacted for whatever reason, I have dismissed (don't want to publicly name them). But I do have some repeating questions. What credibility is there in "future" titles? I have seen breeders offering litters with prices on the higher side from females that "will be" titled in the fall or spring. What does this project to the overall board membership? Any suggestions? Is the female titled or not? What is this future thing ? And I can only say how sorry I am about the people that paid big bucks for puppies from Nero. I hope that some settlement is met to protect your investments. Contrary to what is projected, I am only reflecting the information that I gain and hope that it protects someone from being dupped.

ARE U SAYING A DOG NEEDS NOT TO HAVE A TITLE TO BE USED? THAT THE PUPS ARE CHARGED MORE MONEY FOR BECAUSE THEY ARE TITLED AS MUST BE BY THE SV. BUT, IN U.S. WE CAN BREED GOOD DOGS WITHOUT TITLES AND YET PRODUCE SUPER PUPS TO WORK AND TITLE IN WHATEVER YOU WANT OF THEM. I DO NOT BELIEVE IN CHARGING BIG BUCKS FOR ANY PUPPY, NOBODY CAN GUARANTEE ME HOW THAT PUPPY WILL GROW UP TO BE OR LOOK? I DO NOT CARE IF I PAY $500 OR $3500, THE PUP WILL BE WHATEVER, GENES SLIP THROUGH FROM FAR BACK AND I CAN GET A REAL DUD. I WILL NOT PAY BIG BUCKS I DO NOT CARE WHAT THE MALE OR FEMALE TITLES ARE, LET THEM SPEND THEIR MONEY IN GETTING BIG TITLES, I HAVE SEEN LOUSY PUPS FROM TOP TITLES VA DOGS.

Elizabeth, What are looking for in a GSD? What are your likes and dislikes - what are you going to do with your dog? You know I always go with a breeder that has been in it for years and years and have proven themselves above and beyond. And then we have to remember there are no quarentees - a puppy (dog) is everything we put into it (a product of us - it is us that makes them thrive and develope -through love and training. I feel I have the best breeder in the world - very $$$$$ - but worth everything to me. I have used my breeder for 2 dogs and could never be happier! Answers all my questions, stands behind me in all the training - helps with training advice - directs me and others - I have passed 7 people on to this breeder from across the world and each of them say thanks often.

It is a good rule to use when buying a pup that it come from sch titled, kored and breed surveryed parents. Now, With show line dogs it is much easier to get a dud puppy. The working line odg seem to have ;ess pups that will not work. Take into account what each parent is. Check hip ratings, score books and even ask to see the parents working if possible. Make sure you get a replacement guarantee on the hips. Once you have chosen a breeder check them out with other people that you know are honest and that will give you the straight scoop on them. And ask qwuestions like you have done here. Oh, I do not pay more than 500.00 for any pup any longer myself. They are a crap shoot, and you can never tell what you will get.

Elizabeth, Yes I agree " A puppy is a crap shoot" , but decide what you are looking for and what you want to do with the puppy. For instance Sch.,Show or just a pet. Also do research on the breeder you choose and make sure they understand what you want and are willing to sign a contract related to hips etc. Any reliable breeder should be willing to stand behind their dogs and also be able to evaluate a litter @ 7-8wks. to match your citeria. Also stay with parents that are titled and proven, look @ some of their progeny and visit the breeder's facility if possible. I know several good breeders that I'd trust to pick a dog for me based on their experience and ethics. Email me privately if you'd like some help.

Sorry , I meant match your criteria.(spelling)

Puppies suck.........Sure they are cute and who can say that they don't love puppy breath? If you have high goals you want to achieve then buy an adult dog.No guessing in what it may or may not be able to do a year down the line. I do not agree with the $500 price of a pup, I'm not saying that you can not get a good dog but your chance are slimmer......I consider myself to be a reliable breeder, if you think I am going to guarantee hips your crazy. I will guarantee what I can control I guarantee that when you leave the day you are picking up your pup it is in fact a German Shepherd with the pedigree I say it is from and is healthy and has been checked by the Vet.If you don't like to gamble then stay out of the casinos. If you want guantrees then buy an adult.......

Charlie, there are a lot of GSD breeders in this country who do give written hip guarantees with their puppies. They guarantee against crippling HD in a pet or that a show/breeding prospect with pass OFA or get an "a" stamp. I'm sure Elizabeth will be able to find a good breeder who will guarantee hips on her new dog.

by Charlie Ivory on 17 October 2004 - 16:10

For the most part the guarantee is a play on words.Crippling as in the dog can hardly walk? or need to be put down? Most of the breeders you speak of also require you return the dog to the breederand that is where they get the average person. By this time you have had the dog for lets say a year or so, you love it, your kids love it hell even your wife loves it and now all you need to do is return the dog? most people would not and that is why the breeder words his contract that way, because he know 9out of 10 people have become to attached to the dog by the time any problems arise.Your right, she will be able to find something out there with a guarantee, all I am saqying is that they are not always what they appear to be......I also understand what it feels like to title a dog in anything that you have raised from an 8week old puppy and the feeling is great.I also know that many people myself included have spent thousands and thousands of dollars trying to do such.I'm not trying to rain on Elizabeth's parade, just trying to enlighten her to another way of reaching her goals
