That might reassure good breeders, and establish contacts with clubs. Neither of which would be a bad thing, ever, GSCat. ;-)
However, it would not solve problem of many novices' false expectations that dogs come somehow innately trained, when you buy from cheap internet sources; & it would not stop less scrupulous trainers selling supposedly ready-trained dogs that might just, as Hired mentions, qualify at some sports or protection level but still not be 'livable with'. No replacement for experience with - and real concern for - dogs, IMO.

NOT directed at OP:

Sadly, there will always be unethical and insufficeintly knowlegable breeders, and ill-informed, naive people that end up with dogs they cannot properly are for, train, or handle.

Fortunately, there will also be ethical and well-informed breeders, and people, who are able to properly care for, train, and handle their dogs.  There will also be people in over their heads, who will learn how to properly care for, train, and handle their dogs.

Yeah but its the 'unfortunate' other side of that which always bothers me. Not claiming to know what the answers are; as far as I'm concerned there is plenty of info available for anyone truly interested in having, & doing right by, dogs to absorb & use, but what you do about those who really couldn't give a monkeys, but still want to have dogs, I do not know. I expect most Shelters would like to know too.

There are many people that want to have a dog, but don't even know to look online to find out what/if there's something they should know 😣 Public Service Announcements (PSA) about this would be infinitely better than some of the really stupid topics they make them for 😣

The shelter I adopted my current cat from played 2000 questions with me and provided detailed instructions about care, feeding, training, safety, health, veterinary care, etc., etc., etc. Even though I was an experienced cat owner, I learned some stuff 😊

The same place does the same with people wanting to adopt a dog/puppy/kitten/rabbit.

Most of the shelters I'm familiar with don't do this. I wish they did.

The shelter I adopted my female from came out to my house to check the backyard area for dog to make sure that fencing was strong and high in addition to many many questions.

Good shelters, like good breeders, vary tremendously, don't they ?

Yeah GSCat I think PSB would be a help - but it still does not fully solve the problem because even when it is blindingly obvious that sources of info are available, you still get know-it-all people who think they are above reading or hearing anything. Our UK rescue organisations (inc RSPCA and Battersea, very high profile and with regular TV presence) tell it like it is, all the time.

My dog is doing well, I found a great class for her, and she is a quick learner. I think she is just mentally very young, even though she looks like a full size dog, she does not have an adult brain for sure. I don't have a problem with high drive working dogs, I had a much higher drive , extremely confident and very forward dog previously (not a GSD) who was a working maniac. She was defintely not a 'pet', and much better, more confident and bold than most GSD's I have seen. I am not ill equipped to handle this dog as some of you implied In fact she is soft and sensitive compared to my previous dog. I was just asking about gsd trainers and people if hitting dogs in the face and head was normal. I"m not new to obedience, just new to this dog and GSD's. Like I said, she is not aloof and I've never had a dog that was so friendly in public. Hopefully this one will mature and bloom into a very good adult.

I think you have probably got a reply to your question OP (even if the comments have ranged far and wide in addition to the original topic - that's been interesting & hopefully useful to some passing readers). As far as this board is concerned, even though there's been a bit of dissent as to whether your dog should have been facilitated to approach the Trainer at all - and yes it is noted he asked for that - I think by far the most of us have said "Never in a million years".

Can't guarantee this same size majority among dog people OFF of this forum would be the same, though I think it is likely that it would be.

I don't think this sort of thing is all that common at training classes these days, or at least I hope not; but if people are too trusting that just because someone is operating as a dog Trainer they are going to be okay, and do not do advance visits to clubs/ training sessions in order to check, some less well-intentioned, less well-educated, trainers will continue to do things most of us find reprehensible, because they can go on getting away with it.

hired dog
i never bred the dogs but have seen hundreds, who were bred for a certain purpose or as you said - real dogs. in such breeding not avoidable specimens, who won't suit to anything else other than to be a good watchdogs. and they was placed to where they fit and had use.
lost revenue never been a concern because those dogs never been bred for sale.
among breeders lot of talks about good balance of the dogs but looks like no single consensus what this "good balance" mean. for someone a friendly "social butterfly" is well balanced type. for other an impulsive temperament with pronounced external manifestation of aggression is perceived as good balance.

1990 wasn't a best year. too many changes did come, no one did known to where we move. i wasn't planned to have another dog. pup was assigned to a younger girl in club but when i was helping her, his personality just did strikes me. i have never seen such smart pup. he was literally a "thinker". that's where his name Ari did come from :)

Hundmutter
without seeing dog it's impossible to say anything.
some people afraid dogs just because it's a dogs. some people don't, but do lack of understanding of dogs and can initiate a trouble because of this. luckily latest type in minority.

Valk, you and I both know that there are dogs out there that you would like. I know this because I got one, so, they are out there. I dont want to get into a debate about State sponsored breeding and breeders in the free world.
