I am in need of some new sleeves.  I need a trial sleeve and an intermediate sleeve.  Have any suggestions?  Our group has about 15 dogs in it and we train at least two times a week.  I need some quality sleeves.  Please let me know what you suggest and why.

I LOVE my Bende sleeve.  I only have a trial sleeve from them, but it is absolutely the most comfortable sleeve I have ever used.  It is my "go to" sleeve over the Ray Allen and Harddog.  The angle is very natural and instinctive.  The cuff is very comfortable.  Its light weight but not too light.  I don't get blisters on my thumb from it like my Ray Allen.

personally, I always wear gloves but, what causes you to get blisters on your thumb using a Ray Allen sleeve?

Take a look at the offerings from Gappay.  They have a great line of high quality sleeves (the best in my opinion).  The trial sleeves even come in different forearm lengths to fit the helper.  They also have a nice intermediate sleeve called the Gappay Light.  It  has a flexible bitebar for dogs not quite ready for a trail sleeve but beyond a puppy sleeve. Hallmarkk9.com stocks them and has great customer service.

Here is a link the the trial arms.  HallmarkK9 Gappay Trial arm.

Judron,

Im not really sure, perhaps the barrell is just either a touch too wide or narrow and causes the bottom knuckle to rub it wrong.  It just doesnt "fit" for me.

That brings me to another point, don't necessarily buy a sleeve just because another guy likes it.  Try to use a few different ones and see what you like best.  Comfort and confidence with your equipment is paramount over brand in my opinion.  The Bende works great for me, but may not necessarily be for you.

I have had Frabo sleeves for years and they are still in great condition.  I personally do not like the Gappay, too tight around the forearm for me.  I still use the first frabo sleeve I bought in the mid 90's every week.  I like the Schweikert Sleeves as well.  I own 3 or 4 Frabo sleeves and a Schweikert.  We bought a Gappay sleeve to try for our K-9 unit and I gave it to one of the handlers.  I do not like the Ray Allen, IMO the bite bar is not that good and they just don't hold up as well.  We have several Ray Allen sleeves in our unit and they no longer get used.  I bring my own sleeves to work dogs if we are using them or if I am doing SchH decoying.

Thanks everyone for the replies.  I am going to try the Redline compression and trial sleeves.  I have had Bende, which I just don't think hold up all that well. I had a Hard Dog "shorty" sleeve which I loved, but didn't fit the guys well.   I have also had Frabo, which I do like, as well as Schweikert.  We have 4 people in our group who do helper work, including myself, so trying what may work for most.  We train about 12-15 dogs at least twice a week so these will get used.  I will let you know what the general feeling is about the Redline sleeves, and how they hold up.  Thanks again, Tammy

I know what Slamdunc is referring to.  Gappay has a contour in the arm for the bitebar.  It gives the dogs a sweetspot that can be easier for the dogs to get a more full grip.  I have larger hands and find it a little snug when trying to slip the sleeve.  Gappay make a trail arm that does not have this contour; it's model 0119.  I've had great success with this sleeve.
