It is so heart breaking to see so many innocent dogs that have been hroobily treated by their owners and then somehow they have turned up at a rescue. Its just numbing.

Mithuna, 'rescue' does not automatically equal 'mistreated by previous owner'...it simply indicates that the dog has to be rehomed, but that can be due to a variety of reasons. Some dogs have experienced ill treatment, sure, but others enter the rescue because their owner became ill or passed away and failed to make prior arrangements for their dog in the event of their death, or that arrangement fell through for one reason or another; or the dog developed a health condition the owner couldn’t successfully deal with due to logistics or expense; or the dog became separated from its owner somehow and was picked up as a stray and never reclaimed [which can happen in conjunction with auto accidents, spiteful ex-spouses or lovers, mental illness of the owner or an associate of the owner, lost or abandoned in a location far from its home by someone other than the owner, etc.]; or because a naïve buyer purchases more dog than they can handler or are willing to put the training time and effort into to ensure the dog develops into a well-mannered, socially-stable companion and family member as the breed is meant to be. Socio-economic problems also play a role in why dogs enter shelters and rescues, as people lose their incomes and homes, and may be unable to afford to care for the dog, or are forced into living situations that don’t allow them to keep their pet.

Sadly, it’s the latter two category that is the source of most of the younger dogs in rescue channels; the older dogs are usually there due to health issues of the owner, the dog, or both. The 11.5 y.o. male I adopted several years back was surrendered to the shelter because his elderly owner finally was forced to choose between the expense of managing Max’s discoid lupus, along with just the basic costs for feeding and vetting a large [100#] dog, and the gentlemen’s being able to afford his own medications.

Well, their program is filled for this year. What a shame. Is there no other Police Depts that want these dogs?
It really is a shame how perfectly wonderful dogs get cast aside.
I don t have a buy back on my pups, but I do have a take back. I will take any dog that I produced back, for any reason, any age.
This is why I don t ship pups either. If my dog ever needs me, I must be able to go bring it home.
it is heartbreaking.
I seen a dog in an upstate rescue that looked like my dogs, i called them to find out about the dog, the rescue told me, they are very familiar with the breeder, lots of her dogs come through the rescue, and she will never take them back. Shouldn t be breeding if you can t take them back!!!
