cross gaiting gsd - Page 1

looking for thoughts on a lazy gaiter, unless he is amped up he will cross canter (don't know dog lingo for it), double step and be in the wrong gait front and rear.

first thought is hip problem, maybe so, looking for other possible causes.

build is a taller rangey dog,  light footed and smooth, agility and power much, when in drive.

 a bit random and hard to capture on camera so don't ask.

shuffles more than a flying trot in a trot.

My dog, in start paces and as he picks up speed he switches to trot. Is that same what you are saying about your dog?

^ exactly, puts it together in drive, gets all loose out of drive.

dog world seems to lack the vocabulary compared to horse world re motion.

Frankly speaking I always thought it is natural in start, also when fatigue has overtaken a GSD and that  has no connection to a structure fault. I don't see anything in your dog's conformation that suggests he wouldn't have a good natural trot.

It isn't correct though that a trot gets disrupted in full momentum unless when a sharp turn is taken by a dog or an abrupt reduction of speed. I too would like to hear opinions about it.
