My friend, the same one who adopted what she thought was a rottie pup from a rescue, but as it has grown, the pup hasn't quite fit that description, and is barely 45 lbs . The old lab in the home pack just passed, and this pup adored him. She wants a "real rottie" this time, and wants another female despite my suggestion to get a male. She pointed out that she has always had females live together so, what do I know?

This is in CT. PM's are fine, too, if someone has a dog in mind? The back yard is fenced, her animals are licensed and vet cared for. Oh, and she somehow ended up with her daughter's IG, but I sometimes forget that thing is a dog!

Thanks for any help in this search.

I used to volunteer with http://www.southernstatesrescuedrottweilers.org/ they do not cover CT but they have always been very helpful in helping any rotties in the past and I found them to be the best rescue I have ever dealth with so maybe they could point you to a good rescue in your area since you are not that far out of their zone. An amazing group, that I loved helping during the years I had my rottweilers and was heavily involved in the breed.

on their rescue site is an approx 6 year old female offered independently in Tn as courtesy listing:

Name: Shelby (Female :: 4-5 (2012) :: TN)

OK with Cats: No

OK with Dogs: Yes

Foster Email: kmkimmel@gmail.com

Description:

Adoption Fee: $100.00

Meet Shelby! This sweet girl was found abandoned at a construction site in Nashville, TN. It's hard to say for sure what circumstances she came from. During her recent spay surgery, the vet noted that her uterus was "well used," so a guess is that she was used for breeding and then dumped. Though she is shy and cautious around new people, it only took a day (and some tasty treats) for Shelby to become my new best friend. In the short time I've had her, Shelby has shown herself to be very affectionate and playful. She is housebroken, LOVES going on walks and is great on the leash, is gentle when taking treats from my hand, rides well in the car, likes to cuddle, and knows some basic commands like sit and stay. She will make a great companion for someone who will be patient as she learns to trust them. I have two other dogs, and Shelby has been doing okay with them, but I think she has some socialization to catch up on. She walks great in a pack with them on leash, but does appear to have some resource-guarding tendencies. I have been careful to separate her when feeding and playing with toys. I am not sure how she does with cats. More information and some extra pictures of Shelby are available online at http://kmkimmel.wix.com/shelbytherottie.

She is heartworm negative and up to date on her vaccinations. Shelby deserves a second chance at living the good life -- let me know if you're interested in helping this rescued lady!

Thanks Newbie for your efforts! Shelby looks like a nice dog. My friend's just starting her search, and here is a picture of her rescue, little Macy, snuggled up to the old Lab, who was really her grandson's daddy's dog, (It gets confusing, but the point is, my friend is kind to animals). The poor old dog had a huge tumor-- you can see it on its leg, looking very angry. The little black dog all curled up is a sweet dog, just not the rottie she thought she'd grow up to be. (Sorry not the best picture quality)

Her other rescue "rottie mix" had passed just before she rescued Macy. That dog had developed a mammary tumor and other problems, and it was an emotional ordeal to care for her in the end. I know my friend is hoping to find a rescue... (she like's to save the unwanted) and she doesn't want to go through the puppy housebreaking stage, again, so soon. And really is hoping to find a dog that is healthy, a young adult (6 is kind of old), female (why? I don't know, I am a boy dog person).

I think a younger, previously owned dog who lost its owner through no fault of its own, who is healthy but needs a forever home to be part of a "pack" and home to protect would be her perfect dog to find. The last one came on a pet transport so for the right dog, I know she is not limited to CT.

Thanks, and sorry if this sounds picky, but also for the right dog, they will surely be a lucky dog, if they find each other.

Bee what state your you seeking a dog in? Because Florida is over flowing with rotties in rescue. But i'm sure there is a nice dog somewhere close to home.

Dragonfry,
CT=Connecticut

I know she's scouring Petfinder, already. Driving her hubby a bit nuts, lol. I just figured maybe someone reading this who thinks they might know of the perfect dog, as described above, maybe just might help her get what she's looking for. Her last two Petfinder "finds", didn't exactly pan out with her ideals and hopes.  Not that any dog received was sent back or less loved, of course not!

wow...we must have looked at the same dog...6 years old..but what a gorgeous dog....i even like that they kept her tail...

by beetree on 18 September 2013 - 13:09

LOL! Thanks LadyFrost... I was just going to ask you to forward me any suitable "candidates"!  You might not believe this, but I've never, ever been to CraigsList.  I notice you seem to make it a habit to scan, looking for dogs to save, all the time!

Nice looking girl, but really hoping to find a bit younger dog. You now how it is, the older we get the harder it is to say goodbye, IMHO

I agree...just find your city or big city near by in your state www.craiglist.com  and on top there is a "pet" section.....you can narrow down to "Rottweiler" or just browse through it....

Craiglist is the most common place where people "dump" animals....it pisses me off more than anything...but there are days when it feels good not to see any GSD's listed...
Also, when friends are "looking" for dogs but don't want to pay anything i check shelters/craiglist for potential pets....so far it has worked out great for dogs and people...
