What's fraudelent? That she might be a retired K9, or that she exists and is in need of rescue?

by SitasMom on 27 January 2013 - 21:01

I got this from something that came across my facebook page.....
so trying to ge helpfull, I down lodaded the photo and cut and paste the info.

I also sent this to some friends that are looking for older, trained and retired dogs......
One called and said that the people that are posting this dog, message and photo across the internet are just looking to scam the people who send in money to their "rescue".
Ive gone back and am looking for the post but cannot find it. will keep looking.

Hmm.  It would appear that there's still some question as to whether this is a 'hoax' or not--I'm inclined to doubt the 'retired K9' part, since few departments use bitches, but I see no reason to doubt that there's a senior GSD girl in the New Braunfels shelter in need of rescuing... Just because the number rings through to the local PD doesn't mean it's a hoax listing, and I see no reason to think that the PD would have any info on the current shelter inventory, so it's probably best not to dismiss this girl's need until someone has a chance to actually reach out directly to the shelter tomorrow.

the new bransfels shelter has only 4 dogs listed......
checked petfinder and adopt a pet
didn't see anything that resembled this dog.

Well, I can tell you that my local shelters don't have every single dog that's in house on Petfinder the day they arrive...so that doesn't mean anything. Additionally, one of the facebook posts mentions that her 72-hour mandatory hold period isn't over until Tuesday, so maybe this shelter doesn't post dogs on Petfinder until they're available for adoption.  Or maybe they just don't bother to post senior dogs on Petfinder--maybe they just automatically put the senior dogs down when the hold expires, since they aren't as 'adoptable'...they wouldn't be the first shelter to have such a policy, especially if they're high-volume.

Man, if that dog is in the shelter, that's one of the best shelter beds I EVER Seen.

I just got off the phone with the shelter. She IS in the shelter, she IS being pulled by a Texas Rescue tomorrow.
The entire story of police K-9 is made up. She is a stray that was picked up on the street. That pic IS NOT from the shelter, so my thought is;
The person that dumped the dog is the same person that posted on facebook, otherwise,WHERE did they get the picture.
I guess trying to ease their conscience.
Sorry, still a scummer in my opinion. Can't even take the time to find a decent home for your throw away dog?
They probly already have a new pup to replace her.
