What's your opinion of this dog's ancestry? Pure GSD...or???
He just turned 8 months.

I think this dog is not purebred. On the picture he seems like Malinois x GSD mix. His tail is as short as the one of a Malinois an hes has the body structure (al litte smaller as a GSD and the back ist straight and short) of a Malinois but the colour is from a GSD

GSD x Husky? The tail and structure look like a northern breed to me. Head and color pattern look like a GSD.

I say no unless someone is developing a line of minature shepherds. He does not appear pure bred to me though he does show strong GSD likeness.

It's hard to say really. I've seen some dogs that look like GSD but were mixed. Then I have seen purebreed FCI registered GSD that look nothing like the breed. USA is very extreme in that sence.

Okay, I could let this go on longer, but no one is going to guess.
The dog...believe it or not, is a GSD/lab cross!
He belongs to a family that boards him here, and is very well looked after. They got him from the breeder as a pup, so, unless the breeder was lying through his/her teeth, that's what he is!
I just wanted to show those of you who are involved in rescue just how far out we can be when trying to guess the ancestry of a dog that's been picked up as a stray!

I would have been very wrong then, as I would have guessed purebred German Shepherd, for sure. I guess anything is possible when cross breeding.
