When is the best time to breed a female in there heat cycle on the 9 day or 11 day.............rick

by kioanes on 28 February 2006 - 04:02

depends entirely on the female - some bitches breed as late as day 15-17. ask your vet to do progesterone testing and/or LH testing.

All females are different, I have had females breed as early as day 7, but have one female that breeds as late as day 17-18, I progesterone test her so I son't miss her "good days". Lots of luck to you.

As stated before, every female is diffrent. But I usually tell people day 11 & 13 is the best. But that is just a guideline. Hope this helps....

Hello everyone, talking about progesterone test can anyone tell me exactly at what value should the test be for it to be the right time to stud.

I have a female that produced 9, 10, and 11 pups when bred on day 15 and 16. Got a friend that has a female that is bred on day 18 and produces nice sized litters. It varies from dog to dog. Stephen

I think they can be 'read' in a variety of ways? My vet says that a reading of 15 is perfect timing for breeding...optimum(he has just done a lot of reading on it). I have only once used progesterone (last breeding) and I am waiting to see if she is pregnant (bred 3 wks. ago). Her first reading was 8, and I bred her the next day after that. Upon returning home (after 4 days and 3 breedings) her progesterone was 22. Vet said she is coming down/out etc.

I should mention that a bitch can go from a reading of 8 to 15 in a matter of hours...and then for another dog this might task days.

Just so that you are aware, I have a bitch that concieved on day 25. Quantitative progesterone is the most accurate. Good luck
