PINERIDGE

by PINERIDGE on 25 January 2005 - 19:01

I have friends who show American bred dogs and they don't think anything of giving their 'light' cream dogs TEA BATHS to darken the light tan and cover over some of the salt/pepper. I'm sure that's only the tip of the iceberg -- In Europe - I guess the beta-carotine is the big thing. When crazy show people are finished coloring the dogs, you can be sure they have already added post and crowns where teeth were missing and God knows what else right up to implants in ears (however subtle) and the occasional FAKE testicle. When that is done, they need to give them a "magic pill" so that they will not go nuts in the ring and bite a judge -- so they can collect their ribbons for their magnificent moving Champtions. Don't get me started.

Yes, it has been known to happen. However judges are getting to be rather hawk eyed and even though they don't make a huge scene there are certain punitive measures put in place, e.g. the owner can't understand why his/her exemplary dog suddenly ends up dead last! Grooming per se usually only involves a bit of mousse to fluff up the hair (especially if your dog is out of coat!) and maybe some mink oil spray to "shine-up" the dog.
