Hello travels ,
I'm glad mom has recovered well from the surgery itself, but unfortunately there are those secondary complications that arise afterward. The change in her orientation/ mentation is common after anesthesia especially in the elderly. I have heard that countless times from patients families, that their mothers and fathers have not been "themselves" since receiving hip and knee replacement surgeries. And yes unfortunately pneumonia is a complication too ~ Make sure they are getting her up and make DARN sure they turn her while in bed frequently, every two hours is optimal because bedsores can develop in 24 hours and once they do it's a downhill battle to get them under control~ check moms skin when you visit especially the bony prominences and her bottom, don't trust that the nurses will do it because their patient load is too heavy and things get overlooked ~ hoping the best.
Hugs ~
