Bhall

Sorry, I have not posted pics yet.  We've been having BAD weather and  it will be nicer out tomorrow...

Anyway, the female is a Voodoo/Violka daughter and the male is a Voodoo/Grace Bady Ron son.  Reason I took/got them back was because they supposedly got out and attacked the neighbor.  They had to be quarantined for 10 days (NC LAW).  The owner did not even quarantine them in her house.  She let them go to animal control because she was afraid of a law suit.  The day before they were supposed to be released I received an email from the owner telling me that the animal control officer that worked at the shelter said these 8 months old dogs need to be put down because he has seen their "dark side".  Of course I said no way.  I picked up the pups the next day (we met)  and was also given 2 letters from Animal Control that both dogs have been deemed potential dangerous.  I asked the owner about the details of the bite etc.  She said that one of the dogs (i know which one now) jumped up and nipped her neighbors arm with her front teeth.  It barely broke the skin and it was a nip.  I called Animal Control the next day and of course the conversation with the shelter manager did not end up very nice.  They declared them potentially dangerous according to  NC Dangerous Dog Law, Chapter 67-41.1, through 67-4.5 "Approached a person when not on owners property in a vicious or terrorizing manner in an apparent attitude of attack"  The letter said I had 3 days to appeal to the person in charge.  So, I wrote them a nice letter of appeal.  I observed both dogs and both of them are young extremely playful dogs.  No aggression whatsoever.  The female does what her mother "Violka" does.  She jumps up and nips.  Not aggressive just getting very excited.

My argument was that the person could not even identify which dog jumped up on her.  I also argued the point about the animal control officers comment since I know that they are NOT allowed to make any comments about dogs.  I explained that these are 2 young dogs that are full of life.  My letter to them was nice but firm letting them know that my next step will be the news.

Well 2 days later I receive a call from the big boss telling me they have withdrew the potentially dangerous dog declaration after investigating.

Trust me PDB folks, I will not stand up for a dog that mauled or viciously attacked a person but I will stand up for a young dog that has done nothing wrong except went to the wrong home due to my trust.  So I am at fault.  However, both of these dogs are absolutely beautiful and LOVE the ball  they have also been well socialized so there are no environmental issues.  Just have not been taught any manners :(.  So on a diet we go and the work shall start.

Though, I've never been in your shoes, I want to tip my hat to you for saving those dogs. I trust that they'll flourish under the right handling, and become wonderful companions. I don't endorse a biting dog, but I also don't endorse blindly labelling one a "danger" either. Sadly, there are a lot of people that just plain don't understand dogs (and yes...that goes for  animal control officers too), don't know how to care for them, and certainly don't know how to handle them. Eight month old dogs are still pups, and can still be "mouthy"...nothing earth-shattering, just something that needs to be managed. I always maintain, that dogs aren't born bad....some just end up with bad/stupid people. Good luck and all the best.

Have you taken them to the Vet for an initial check-up since taking them back?  If anything should occur health-wise or the owner saying she wants them back, you have a paper-trail of a licensed professional saying, "these dogs are morbidly obese" and is "not due to any health condition" (such as hypothyroidism, but even that would be a stretch.)

I wish you the best with them.  Hope it all works out well.  At least they will now get the exercise they need to stay healthy.
