Destiny,
Like people, it depends on the dog.  Some will take it and only take so much, some will not take what they feel are unfair corrections at all.  Some will take it and go into avoidance or totally shut down and never fight back.  It is an individual thing and not even breed related.

Some dogs will defend themselves from an unfair correction, some when they feel challenged,  and some will only defend themselves when they perceive their life threatened.  Some will roll on their backs and not defend themselves at all.  Every dog is different.

I also use primarily motivational training techniques and work my dogs in drive.  I never hit my dogs, my hands are for praising and petting only.  I do use a leash and various collars to polish and proof behaviors once they are learned.  If you work a high drive, highly motivated, hard dog then positive training needs to be enforced when the dog is disobedient or not responding as trained.  Corrections are not necessarily a last resort, IMO.

e-collars , leashes/collars , all are tools .. tools to communicating that results in learning ..[ something -one way or another]. SO ... what is the word "correction" all about ?? If one teaches a child , a dog , a student :  mistakes are corrected- people and dogs make mistakes ..  .. but refusal to perform when one knows the request &  is fully capable of executing requires descilpline and , enforcement .. i  always keep these fundamentals in mind when training  . I also try to remember  - a canine is not human !! .. it sees the world unlike  we do .. i had a call yesterday , from  a friend " my dog jumps over a hurdle no problem at home but doesn't when we were at another location" & ? what is the problem , does she lack drive?" --  so does one recc. an e-collar to discipline the dog .. do you use an e-collar to polish ? NO !!! absoulutely not .. i discussed with my firend  : in the dog's mind : the two scenarios are two different pictures . the situation is about the  perception and what is in the dog's mind. the dog's perception and thinking - that - resulted in two different behaviors . the CONTEXT is different & therefore  the request is not the same !! So again ... as i posted prevouisly  ..CAUTION using e-collars [ or any other tool ] that we don't take the incorrect course of action , correcting vs. disciplining for one . IMO always be understanding, correct, & fair .
