If you're looking at Dallas, you will not want to look at south Dallas or even east Dallas.  Stay outside of the 635 loop generally anywhere on the north side.  North Plano is known for their great schools and you will never have to go far for anything, but the traffic is no bueno.  Wylie is a nice little city east of Plano with decent schools or even Murphy if you want to tell all your friends that J.R. Ewing is your neighbor.  Sachse is alright and you can shop 'tll you drop at the Firewheel outdoor mall and you are close to anything with the George W. Bush tollway right there.  You could look a little farther north and west toward Justin.  Lots of new construction and close to the NASCAR action.  I hope these ideas help.  Good luck.

What ever happened to DR?

I can't give much info about Austin as I don't know my way around it yet, but as for the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, I live about 30 minutes south of it in Mansfield.  Its grown and is still growing a lot, but it's a nice place to live.  It still has some 'country' areas and if its not country enough for you its right by Burleson/Joshua.  I love the areas out that way...
