While you can get up to 3 months protection from fleas from most all of the topical spot on products..... the ones that also work against ticks will only do so for 1 month, so monthly application will be necessary.
It's time to wage war.. you have to treat outdoors if its as bad as you are describing... you may want to consult a professional
Regardless of the path you take, your treatments will have to take into account your pet and human population but like someone else said.. most are safe after drying....
I use a monthly exterminator and he is very careful about the products he uses around the dogs areas...
You wil have to be persistent and know that this can't happen in 1 month....

Good luck

If you spray be sure to spray several feet up the trunks of your trees and if you have cedars, or trees like them, saturate the lower branches throroughly.

I am surrounded by woods (5 acres) and when I moved here I was in the same situation as you are now. I purchased Nematodes and only had to buy them 1 time out of 2 1/2 years and I do not have a tick problem anymore. It is all natural and does not do any harm to the dog's. I swear buy these nematodes and they do work pretty fast. I've tried frontline plus, etc, etc, and the tick can still get on your dog and bite. Since I've had the nematodes I have not found 1 tick on my dog's, and I have 4 outside dog's!!! Here is the link www.arbico-organics.com and just look for nematodes. They have different ones for different zones.

Where is your new home? There are landscaping techniques you can use to help with your problem instead of  chemicals.

Do a search you and you are sure to find suggestions for your area, like this:

A friend of mine used these nematodes a few years ago when she had a Frontline resistant infestation and quite safe.

I feel the nematodes are the most effective and safe thing to use and least expensive as well. I'm now just ordering some more of them after 2 1/2 years of not having to. I think that is a cost savings if you ask me.

That nematodes idea sounds great, ive been doing some research on them with google, two people on this thread both said it lasted them two and a half, it only cost about 50 dollars, ive spent a few hundred just over the 2 months with all the other stuff i tried and nothing worked. Thanks everyone, i let you know how it worked.

JL

did you watch the video on the website I posted above?  It was freaking AMAZING at how easy the technique is at removing ticks!

Yes, someone mentioned them to me and I've never had to use anything else since. Their so easy to use too. Just put them in a spray bottle that connects to your water hose and spray away. I've even sprayed them inside my dog kennels and they are awesome!!! Where I'm in Michigan they go dormaint in the winter, and multiply during the warm months. I honestly had ticks sooo bad out here that I would have them crawling up my leg, etc, YUCK!!! But since I sprayed the nematodes in my area I've not had 1 tick on me or my dog's :-)  It's the easiest to use and the most cost saving thing to use IMHO.
