that's trick has quite bad drawback - past member prager in here called it "fabric fetishizm (or fixation)".
dog already seems overwhelmingly fixed up on prey motive.
why would one need to promote and develop this innate defect to even worse condition?

Valk, most likely because he is trying to do sport work with the dog and as such, barking is required for certain exercises.
Prey drive is not a defect, prey alone is. Defense is not a defect. but defense alone is.

Valk - how is using 'peek-a-boo' with a reward for barking (the bite) a bad thing for sport work? Please explain how you would teach a dog (that will be doing sport work) to bark to initiate the work when the dog will not bark with the helper on the field (as described)? The dog is supposed to be proactive, and not reactive to the helper - in other words, the dog learns to 'call out' the helper by barking.

seems like duke is right - case with very common today the prey playfulness.

i don't know. obvious the lack of aggression in dog but without seeing the dog it's hard to be certain.

what you're suggesting, wouldn't make dog proactive toward decoy (human) but toward equipment.
if OP ok. with that, then sure.
personally i wouldn't use prey motivation with this dog, to teach the bark.

Valk, its a sports dog, its not supposed to be proactive toward the human, its supposed to want the sleeve.
This is simple stuff in the dog sports world.

Valk - I think you are not quite grasping the concepts in sport work - it's not border patrol.   If you were to watch any of duke's vids on FB or the net, the reward for the dog challenging and barking at the man is the sleeve - so what's your point, Valk?

Even if the OP was to start the dog in defence, with no equipment visible and helper 'threatening' with the dog 'chasing' the decoy away, the dog still has to learn to bite the sleeve. For start it will most likely be the tug/pillow/soft sleeve, but the reward in sport training is the bite of the sleeve and fight with the man.

This is a young dog, being worked by an inexperienced helper who is said to be a 'quiet' person. I would suggest the OP find an experienced helper to start the dog, and maybe even take the club helper to see how an experienced decoy works the dog.

koots, i perfectly understand what it's all about.
when i did SchH with my last dog, i have seen something similar.
result was terrible whining/squeaking sound. it's like that dog was begging for bite.
but as i said - owner of dog to decide which direction to take.

Valk - you're very quick to 'poo-poo' other people's advice and help but I don't see you offering any advice of your own, or techniques that you think would work. In other words, you complain but do not offer solutions - how very NOT helpful of you... SMH.

You don't have to hack/dub, just inspire us with your helpful advice perhaps. You mentioned another 'trainer' who used to frequent this site (Prager), but have not come up with something of your own to add? I'm disappointed, not frustrated, lol.
