I have a 2 year old grandson of Congo Vikar. He is great! Excellent prey drive and defense drives.
Training him for his IPO titles and the Nationals. Strong powerful dog with a great structure.
You can see his videos on YouTube, type in on YouTube: "Hunter Working On The Hold & Bark and Outs (Protection)."

seems like a nice dog but would be better to expose him in test a bit beyond of that boring template with a stapled movements,
sleeve and crappy whip lashing.

I see nothing wrong with dog but agree about the whip and see it as another fault of IGP. It is similar to agitating a dog behind a fence in that it creates a false sense of confidence in a dog for the performance of barking which is actually a waste of energy. A silent guard can be very effective but it lacks flash. If a whip is going to be used the dog should be hit with the whip to actually test him.

that’s a nice dog

he’s ready to don a muzzle, and the decoy drop every piece of equipment starting with that silly whip and go hands on - and take the dog out of his comfort zone.

From what I have heard over the years, Congo was a serious dog, mainly defensive and low prey drive. I heard was not a consistent producer. So he was likely a very good dog depending on what type of dog you like and your dog being a grandson, might have inherited some of his good traits while being more genetically influenced by his sire and dam.

Thank you! I think he did inherited some of Congo's good traits. This dog has definitely been tested and passed with flying colors! He's been on the hidden sleeve and loves biting a man for real with no growling or nervousness.
But my main focus is IGP and getting to the Nationals and World Championships!!!

Bottom line is this, he has excellent defense drives and prey drives with great nerves.
I can take him to any new environment with new helpers and he is always super confident!
What makes this dog great is really not his defense drives or prey drives it's his nerves.
Without a strong nervous system you really have no dog.

Not knocking your dog but he is not biting a man for real on a hidden sleeve. The dog knows the sleeve is there and the decoy’s reaction will be different from a real bite, even if he is a good actor.

Apple, no dog will bite for real, unless he bites for REAL, no sleeves, no suits, just another human. Until that happens, everything is conjecture and beliefs based upon our own ego.

the trained eye may be able to determine with some accuracy if a prospect is ready for the box, so to speak. but outside of actual demonstration, it’s only conjecture as to whether “my dog will bite for real”. Maybe even multiple successful demonstrations to earn a certification.

when I see videos here of ‘protection training’, of dogs allowed to prance away from the ‘threat’ with a sleeve in his mouth, probably makes such conjecture even more of an unknown.

the muzzle certainly isn’t the end all-be all of civil training, but CAN be a better indicator of the dogs fighting spirit, without the familiarity/comfort of equipment.

Can you post a link to his pedigree?
