What is everyone's opinin on the best dog bed? I am considering a Kuranda bed. My pup loves to chew. Need something harder to destroy.

My female was terrible with destroying beds when she was a pup. I eventually gave up, and didn't put anything in her crate. I decided having the dog sleep on bare plastic was better than having surgery for a bowel blocked up with fabric or matress stuffing.

Last year, I found a pad that was the right size for her crate, and put it in. She just pushed it to one side, and slept on the bare plastic!

Now that she's long past the puppy chewing phase, she is not shut in the crate at night. However, it is still her preferred sleeping place.

I have no experience with the Kuranda beds, but I once had a determined chewer chew through the car seatbelt*. So, I imagine even the fabric of those beds wouldn't be safe, and I'm darn sure the plastic frames would be toast, too, with the way some of my dogs have destroyed toys.

*She was shut in the back of our station wagon, with a specially designed cage-type  partition. There was a gap in the partition just where the shoulder belts for the rear seats were. I guess she thought if she chewed through them she would be able to escape, and have the run of the whole car.... Roll eyes  It was the gal in my sig, and of all the GSDs I've owned, she was the most challenging to train. You always had to do your best to be one step ahead of her...

Sunsilver: Thank you for the advice. Right now he's sleeping on a towel which he is okay with. I think we're already gone through about 10 beds! He's only 7 months so that is getting expensive! lol I agree, I think maybe bare crate might end up being best (and safest!) .Teeth Smile

I have the Aluminum frame Kuranda beds. My female GSD is VERY destructive even though she is 2.5 years old - she has chewed through the fencing of her kennel and has chewed the steel that trims the door frame of her dog house even though it makes her gums bleed. She has tried over the past 1.5 years to chew the Kuranda bed without success - when her jaws close over the frame, her teeth cannot reach the heavy vinyl frabric. The bed still looks brand new even though it is left outside all year round.

I wouldn't go with the cheap bed. I think the Kuranda beds are the best. And they have a warranty.
I have one with ballistic nylon, my GSD nor my destructive Dachshunds can take a thread out of it.
Our Humane Society uses Kuranda beds with all dogs and some heavy chewers. It's worth getting the real deal.

I have used Kurunda beds for the last 6 or 7 years with rescues and pets. We had a fund raiser to supply the county shelter with them as they are indestructable and easily cleaned/sanitized and supplied them with several. 5 years later and they are still in use. They are literally indestructable! I had a mastiff that would destroy anything including chain link kennels. He was finally able to dig thru the synthetic material on the bed but it took him an extended time of digging. I still have one of the beds and it looks the same now as when I bought it except for a few small dents from chewing.

We just bought Kurandas for the entire kennel.  The dogs absolutely love them, no destruction yet!

I have Kuranda beds too in my kennels-

A few thoughts to keep in mind-

Yes, heavy chewers CAN do a number on the plastic frames, so its best to spend the extra and get the Aluminum frames.

If you have outdoor runs that have any weather exposure, males that will hike their leg on the bed or any other way that the bed may hold water-  the material with drainage is best BUT, dogs can get a tooth into the material and tear it up.

The canvas is good but can eventually wear out.

I have the heavy vinyl material and it holds up for years but it also does not drain and is terrible for my males who seem to love to mark any hard corner (outside the house) and/or for any outdoor settings.

They also make a crate bed -  basically a cot for inside the crate so your dog does not have to sleep on a hard plastic floor but also can't chew up its bed- They offer kennel discounts if you qualify so be sure to ask.
