That's exactly it, Brynjulf, there is no proof that this testing shows anything. If you read the OFA explanation of the test results you will read many "could"'s and "may"s ....just another money grabber genetic laboratories can offer dog owners in the US...Nothing I would ever do.
here the OFA explanation:

as i said, ibrahim,  the way our tests are currently conducted, the only proof that we can display
is that the actual dog tested is clear.  this may not be completely true of dm tests.  i'm not saying
that it shouldn't be done or to do away with it.  i just think people need to realize it is not 100%
foolproof.  we would all love to have solid guarantees in life, but very few things actually are.

The original statistics were on the OFA site.  They have since been "revised".  I testing data had been submitted by the original vets who worked on the project.  The Problem with the current DM testing is that is was designed for other breeds.( which it DOES work for)  The GSD is known to have a seperate type ( no less devistating).  The current test does not recognize this seperate type.  Read the information on the OFA site.  I have know doubt that a proper test will be done soon. Until such time I think it is a disservice to test the GSD.

Based on what everyone is saying, I have a stupid question.  Why is my GSD showing DM carrier on the test if the GSD has a different DM gene.  They are testing for a specific DM Gene.   If the GSD doesnt have that specific DM gene, then it should show clear.
